Why don't we get to know all of the people on this planet before we try to find people thousands of light-years away?

Enrico Fermi asked the same question. Then one Dr. Frank Drake came up with an equation that attempts to determine the number of extraterrestrial civilizations out there.
The Drake equation has a number of factors, like how many stars in a galaxy, how many of those stars have planets, how many have planets in habitable zones, how many have intelligent life, and how many want to communicate with us versus how many don't care to communicate.
We can't be the only ones with dominion over the entire universe. What are we gonna do with all this space? And we've only been able to travel to outer space for the past 50 years. I think that we have a very long way to go.

Not even a possibility, with over 600 million stars in our galaxy alone, and an infinite number of galaxies, some smaller, some larger, there just can not be the chance that no other life came into being somewhere else.
we are not alone, even if because of the great distance of even our closest neighbor, we will never be able to meet any of them, unless we or they solve the problem of faster than light speed or find a way to bend space.

There is an equation polularized by Carl Sagan about the probabilities of life in the known universe. I know there is. microbial life is almost certain. Sentient is also likely. Our existence was a huge fluke in itself. Some theorize that life came to Earth from a comet that collided with us. It's certain.

Beats me; it's a darned big Universe, though, so I'd say the odds are pretty good that somewhere else there's life in some form.

It's just my opinion, but I think it would be foolish to assume that we're the only sentient life forms in the universe. Why would we be the only ones in a limitless expanse?

Probably. We have been searching the sky for years transmitting radio waves in the hope someone will contact us. So far nothing.
