We bought a 97 Jetta and have had nothing but problems since. The first day we actually drove it, it died in the carwash, found out the distributor cap needed replaced because one clip was missing. A few days later, it completely wouldn't start. We bought a new battery for it and my fiance drove it once more. He drove it on a rainy day and it died on him. He had someone jump it to get it home and since it hasn't started. He's tried jumping it and it does nothing. We took the battery in and they say it's good. When we go to start it, on the dash, where it lights up for Drive, Reverse, etc, that lights up but that's it and it makes a clicking noise underneath the shifter, which we think is wehre the fuse box is. Any suggestions???? By the way, we have bought a new distributor cap but haven't put on yet, because we've came into other problems.

Try putting the distributor cap on, get a new rotor, plugs and wires and replace them. If it still won't start, THEN check the starter and then alternator. Since it seems to be dying a lot where water is involved, check for leaks around the hood where water may be getting near the distributor.

Could be the starter. Also have the charging system, not just the alternator, checked by a real mechanic, not the autozone kid. Also make sure the cable ends are clean and not corroded at the battery. Good luck.

ok, i could placed start up via putting on the distributor cap you obtain it extremely is elementary to do, merely align the hot cap so it extremely is dealing with the comparable course because of the fact the previous one and flow one spark plug cord at a time from the previous cap to the hot cap (this determines in what order the spark plugs hearth, IE it extremely is significant to get them the comparable way they at the instant are.), once you're at it replace the rotor that is going below the distributor cap it extremely is purely a dollar or 2 at any motor vehicle areas save. merely pull the previous rotor right this moment up and placed the hot one on the comparable way. The distributor cap itself could have 2 clips or 2 screws on it merely unclip the previous one and placed the hot one on the right comparable way. i could wager the reason it extremely is stalling is by using the fact even the smallest volume of water interior the distributor cap might reason a short and forestalls the spark plugs from firing or lead them to mis hearth. regularly you notice this while somebody drives by lots of water and stalls out on the different side. i could wager your distributor cap isn't making reliable touch with the rotor and due to this your motor vehicle won't start up. Any reliable autoparts save or library could have manuals with pictures to lead you thru this technique. reliable good fortune!
