At the citizen level. If citizens exercised there right to bear arms there would be a whole lot less victims. An armed society is a polite society (Mark Twain).

I think one of the main things that could be done to prevent this type of incident to happen again is this......

They need to pass a law that does not allow the media (which would be hard due to freedom of speech) to broadcast a story for days. This is where the problem is. You have these nut jobs wanting there 15 minutes of fame. For example...after the VA Tech Shooting, there was that one guy in Washington that said that he was going to make the VA shootings look like nothing. Why? Because he watched tv and saw all of the attention that Cho was getting. So in my opinion, when something like that happens, the media needs to talk about it....but do not give the a--hole the time and day with all of the media coverage. They need to just state the facts, and not give the criminal ANY air time. No name, no face, NOTHING. If they knew that the world would not know who they were after the committ such a horrific act.......would they do it?

Yes, when students and teachers were interviewed, they stated that they knew he was'nt right in the head.He had some issues, like he stalked some girls, spied on others who he did'nt know personally.

Its those types of people who have mental imbalances who can be considered a threat.A simple way to avoid it, talk to them, interact with them.I did just that when I was in high school, depression can drive someone to delusions about reality. This certain kid believed he was my friends boyfriend, he stalked her and asked her out constantly. When she finally denied him, he dropped into depression, it got to a point where he pulled a gun out in school and started waving it around.

Simply put, I took it away from him and knocked him unconcious.I was lucky and so were the others in the room, that the safety was still on.

If there is a student depressed or just some teen or young adult, or rather anyone, please talk to them.Play the role of a caring friend, don't let them just roam about thinking the worst things possible.

That is the best way to prevent the va tech incident from ever happening, well its the best way without making parents and others really pissed off.

There were two major deficiencies in the law which, if corrected, could probably have prevented the Virginia Tech massacre.
1) Make it easier to commit a mentally ill person for treatment involuntarily. It is extremely difficult now, especially in Virginia. Of course patient rights need protection; but not being treated does not help people like Seung, does it?
2) Have data about persons with severe mental illness available to gun sellers. Such people are not legally permitted to buy guns, but Seung simply lied and said he had no major mental health history. Or maybe he didn't lie, maybe he believed it.
However, not all mass murderers are mentally ill.
And there is no way to guarantee all such massacres can be avoided.
So besides this, it would be good to educate people on what to do in a case like this, just as we learn what to do in case of earthquake or heart attack. In one classroom, all survived because they barricaded the door so the gunman couldn't get in.
And, if some people were permitted to be armed (maybe teachers, maybe adult students with a gun permit) the casualties might have been fewer.

I believe that evil is found in the world no matter what we do. This behavior was founded in Cho's sinful nature and "the father of this world" meaning Satan, controls an individual who has allowed his life to be permeated by violent video games, sexual perversion, and self centered egotistical choices. This guy was an egotistical maniac. No it can't be prevented from happening again. Unfortunately we cannot keep people from their own misguided psychosis. We have a free will and no other can control that. Not even God. You must choose who you serve.
The department responsible for his behavior is Satan.

Maybe not prevent the shooting but get a good communication system to warn people and save more life's. I know my local town my son's school system they lock the doors down in every school. His school has cameras too @ the doors. Also the school system has two way radios for each building in case there is something that happens, they can get the liaison officers quickly. In every class room there is a phone too.
I think all students in high school or college should be allowed to carry cell phones whether on high school or college campuses. But the students need to be responsible not to cheat with the cell phones. I think many of the college campus need to get more security on campus for each dorm and any building on campus.

Yes, by improving the responce and actions of public officials, security services who serve the public schools, universities etc. By advancing the political and police training the next school shooting ( which will happen before gun control ever materializes) a better responce will reduce the death count.

Yes, Fox news is reporting the Virginia Court System knew he was stalking women on campus and did little to nothing. Stalking is serious, abnormal behavior especially considering he did not have relationships with these women. We can not always give someone a slap on the wrist and say what they are doing is no big deal. He should have been locked up then. Not left in society to continue in his crazy ways.

Nothing in our society can prevent this from happening. This is a gun society. The NRA is so powerful that no politician can oppose the insane gun laws we have here.
Even the most psychotic people have full legal rights (including gun ownership) until they hurt someone and it is too late.
One of the teachers who was killed moved to Virginia from Canada despite her fear of violence in America. Look what happened.

Sure.. higher security in all educational systems for one.

Psychological assessments of all students.

Armed police officers in all schools during breaks.

In the event of a lockdown, classrooms are impossible to get into.

There are plenty of things, but none of them will stop them from happening.
