Freddie Mercury was a huge talent. Queen in general, maybe not always so cool.
And as far as it being uncool contracting HIV through unprotected sex.. that was back in the 80's before anyone KNEW anything about the disease at ALL. So it's not a good idea to judge. Many people also contracted the virus through blood transfusions. Blood obviously is now screened for HIV.

Very...Very cool. Cynnkitty is absolutely right...Freddy Mercury, as well as many other incredible people (famous and not famous) died from AIDS because they didn't know how it was contracted "way back when". The incubation persiod for the virus was, at the time, up to 10 years so someone could contract it and be completwly free of symptoms all that time. The strains of the virus are much more aggressive now and will start to take it's toll more quickly. On the other hand though...medicine's have been developed in the last 10 years or so that make it possible for someone with HIV to live a very normal, productive and healthy life. AIDS, while still a very serious disease in need of a cure, isn't the death sentence it once was. If someone takes care of themselves and is dilligent with their medications, they can live a normal life span.
