1. Get a job. You may have to lighten your class load a little but you can always pick it up later.
2.Check bulletin boards for notices from people looking for roommates.
3. Ask some of those people you talk to in class to join you for a cup of coffee--maybe to explain some part of the lesson you didn't quite understand.
5. Do it NOW.

First of all at 24 you should have a job. If you're still in school and living at home that is fine. By getting a job, first of all, it will make you more independent, and second of all, allow you to meet new people.
You said you talk to people in class, then speak up and suggest going out somewhere. How about joining different clubs in school?? In your neighborhood?? You can meet people with the same interests as you and won't have to struggle to make conversation.
I know it can be hard being shy but you need to break out of the shell...what are you afraid of?? Just take one step at a time and with each step it will get easier and easier.
You can do it!!

I'm only 16, but I think I have some advice for you!!...what are you in college for??...get a job..because you will meet new people and can associate with alot of people...if you work where there is customers...I'm sure that if the people in your class wanted to be more than just friends then they may make the first move...I am very shy, too...but i still have lots of friends and i don't party or cuss or anything like that..but i still have fun..since your older you probably aren't as crazy teen-like like me..but you should go out and get a job like i said and invite people out to lunch, a day in the park, and whatever your hobbies are , invite people to go out and just have fun with you..if you like to have lots of fun go to a bar and try to meet new ppl...just slowly start conversation with ppl. or let them come to you!!!..well i hope this works!!...email me and let me know!! whitekracka_101@yahoo.com !!

well, you're with people in cyber-space, that's something!
Don't look around and be fooled by very "social" people, and try to compete with them. Everyone goes through this, all during their lifetime. You can have a 100 friends in high school, and almost none in college, and vice versa. Once you get a permanent job, you'll have plenty of people you're FORCED to be friends with, probably too many.
People have only so much time to spend socializing these days, and you are in a very demanding time of your life, when nothing else matters but getting your degree.
If you are an only child, you also probably don't have the tough, outgoing background that people raised with siblings have---"onlies" are very choosy about their friends---"sibling" people are not, and are usually very undemanding and fluid about socializing, because they've had decades of practice.
Don't judge yourself!

i can relate to what your saying a little and the best advice i would give you is if thers any guys/girls that you work with for presentations or watever and stay with during the few hours you have inbetween lessons or something, maybe try and jsut ask one of them oh u wanna hang out or go werever next sat? as this is the only way your gonna get close to them and then hopefully start hanging out with people.
Also maybe like u sed u come across as aloof, them try to talk to people more try to make converstaion taht lasts and so u can finish it off with cofee or watveer?
Erm i guess it will be hard to talk to people as you say your really shy, i was like that back when i was 18! and in college n stuff but as you get older and now im in uni, you have to realise the only way your gonna make new friends is if you talk to them and so get close kinda and be able to ask them to "hang out" outside college.
neway good luck and hope what i sed helps you!!
oh yeah i almost forgot if you can try and go out with your college friends on a night or to a party or something jsut to let yourself go and that way youl meet alot new poeple as well as make new friends!

Join a club that has people that share your interests, then it's easy to talk to people, or join a couple. Ask those people to have a coffee with you and discuss your ideas. It's hard, but what do you have to lose? Nothing! and everything to gain. When you are more confident with those people, talk a little more to the people in your classes. Say something dramatic or ridiculous, and when people challenge you, ask them to have coffee and discuss it. People love to try to change other peoples minds.Smile a lot and look welcoming. Maybe you look too aloof to talk to. Practice smiling, and if you smile at people, they automatically smile back. I don't want to talk to a sourpuss but it's easy to talk with someone who smiles!

Try to think of shyness as a form of conceit.
Practice asking questions that show you're interested in the other person.
Get one or two to go with you to a coffeeshop, and ask them about their
o classes
o jobs
o parents
o books they like to read
o what do they think about _______________
o or __________________
and take careful note of who likes what. Ask people when their birthdays are, then wish them a happy birthday when it comes.
Smile. A lot.
Believe me, people love it when someone takes a sincere interest in them. You will have plenty of nice acquaintances and even a few friends very soon!

Talk to people, when you are having a conversation with one of your "class friends" say; hey, wanna hang out sometime. Or chill sometime at my crib?? Just be nice, and bring on the outside conversing!! Good Luck!

I would suggest getting a part time job that would not interfere with your schooling. The coworkers you meet when you are out would be a good group to get to know and possibly hang out with once in a while.
