I only have 256 MB of RAM on my computer, and I have an extra slot and card, however I'm pretty sure they're different types. I read somewhere that you shouldn't have two separate types of RAM on one computer. Is that right?

Depends on the RAM type actually.

Generally it's a matter of the timings.

DDR2 is pretty new and I haven't messed around w/ interchangeability of them.

DDR RAM can scale pretty well (i've seen systems running both PC2100 and PC3200 - at the 2100 speed (never faster)).

PC100/133 does not scale this way. There is a reason for this, but it's beyond the scope of this question.

EDO - Buy a new computer.

DDR RAM is cheap right now... I'd suggest maxing out the board - http://www.newegg.com or http://zipzoomfly.com

More RAM = less time crunching data.

Good luck!

Types, Yes, But if you mean sizes then that depends on the type... For example regular Sdram can have 512 stick and nother 128 stick... to make a total of 640....

But in DDR Sdram you can't mix sizes...
