You don't turn it off, the dry chemical has to run out until the system depressurizes. The sprinkler head needs to be replaced and the system has to be recharged by a certified fire equipment installer.

alan p is right if its a dry chem system if its a water system, it was more than likely a glass bulb in the head so it would still need to be replaced. but to keep water from coming in you can use two rubber door stoppers in opposite directions to stop the water flow. if you cant find rubber ones wood ones will be fine but might now stop completely
