Well I've traveled some, but my backyard garden is my escape now.
Estes Park was gorgeous but too touristy. Not my style.
L.A. was fun fun fun but too crowded even on Rodeo Drive.
San Diego's harbor is nice, and the Zoo was unbelievable. The weather in California just knocks my socks off.
South Padre Island (Texas) was fun and really, really hot. I got a great tan and I got to go across the border and shop in Matamoros, Mexico. You've got to do it at least once just to experience it.
The back roads of Georgia are lovely. It was very charming, and the people were warm and inviting.
Pennsylvania was breathtaking in the snow. I saw the railroad and the pines covered in snow and it was the most beautiful place I could imagine.
I've had a lot of fun in Austin, Texas. Very laid back, and it has the best music anywhere in Texas, and that's really saying something.
San Antonio is unusual, with spanish missions and the riverwalk and Mexican style marketas. Really yummy food.
Louisiana casinos are nice, good food. I strongly recommend La Berge. It's beautiful, new, you get good srevice and there's a nice spa area for the non- gambling grannies like me.
New Orleans was a great place back in the day. I haven't been back since the storm, so I couldn't really vouch for that now, but they had great food and music and ambiance.
Las Vegas. Well if you haven't been there, you gotta go. Spend as much time as you can there because you won't have time to see enough. The aquarium was nice and so was the dolphin pool - zoo. My little husband and I stumbled onto a party on the roof of the Rio. Voodoo Lounge or some such thing. Watch out for those witchdoctors! (Rum disguised as punch).
But the best place for me was riding motorcycles with friends for two weeks in South Dakota and Wyoming. I felt like I was going home. The hillsides were begging me to stay. If I had been able to, I would have stayed on forever. I'll never forget the magnitude of the Crazy Horse monument. It virtually could dwarf Mount Rushmore if they were side by side. It's really an awesome inspiration.

No. There are many Americans who take more than 33 vacation days in 18 months. Obama takes less vacation time than most Presidents. Bush and Reagan took far more vacation days than Obama. The state of the nation today is better than it was during the Bush administration. It was far worse during the Great Depression, the Vietnam War and many other times yet Presidents took vacations then, also.

1. San Francisco for 2 or 3 days including Sonoma valley vineyards.
Drive down A1 which hugs the coast to Monteray, overnight, then on to Los Angeles for 2 nights for the MGM Studio stuff etc.
Then down to San Diego...harbour cruise, Corronado island.
Down to Tijuana Mexico for the day and then fly out of San Diego

2. Key West for a week. Very expensive now.

3. Las Vegas. Not in the summer, too hot.
Shows, casinos, dining, Grand Canyon, Boulder Dam. Both by aircraft. (unless you want to spend the whole day on a bus)

I took my wife to Door County Wisconsin for our honeymoon.
We stayed at the Sawyer House (B&B)
The country is absolutely beautiful, and while we traveled a little of the side roads, we didn't get to the Island.

It is a great experience, and I am thinking to go back for our 5 year anniversary. (this year)
The Fish Boil is a really cool dining event.
We were able to make the last one of the season, and I loved it. The Cherry Beer is great too.

My wife and I live in Florida. We drove up I-75 to Atlanta, Cincinnati, and then swung over to Washington D.C before taking I-90 down the coast. I don't have time to list everything we found to do, it was so much fun. Mountains. Cities. Parks. Museums. Forests. Zoos. Etc. Etc. You name it, we found it.
