When I saw it for the first time a week ago it was white. Picked it up an hour ago and it has black mould looking stuff on it's face and along it's tail. The stupid woman in the pet shop said " you can have it cheaper cause I think it has a disease".
Does anyone know what it could have?

Normally I wouldnt have thought of buying a diseased animal BUT I know this sounds dumb but I choose him when he was well and if I didnt take him he would die. I think there needs to be stricter licensing of Pet shops. She had no idea what he has. She was the owner. I know this Pet Shop is dodgy. It is not the animals fault and I would have loved to have walked out with ALL the poor animals that are in there!!

It does sound like a fungus, but these are usually gray or white. Is there a way you could post a photo of it with this question? If you've got a digital camera, you can upload a photo using one of the photo sharing websites on the internet and link it to this question by using the pencil icon on the bar under your question and paste the link by "adding details". It would help if we could see what this looks like.

ADDITION: I noticed there wasn't a photo posted yet. If you have photos, but aren't able to figure out how to post them, email me (through the link in my profile). If you are able to wipe off the fuzz, try doing that gently, then put the axolotl in a clean container with shallow water - no gravel, only a few inches deep. I would hesitate to do more for him at this point because salamanders are sensitive to several medications and he already would be stressed from the previous conditions he's been in. Try just clean water and see how that goes.

I can not identify the disease because I cant see it , it could be a whole myriad of ailments. The best way to go about curing it is to quarantine it. The next step is to take a few good pictures and go to a local fish store , preferable a locally owned store, they usually know more than the big chain stores who hire anyone, perhaps they may be able to help you further. Good luck.

i wouldn't have bought a diseased animal. the fact that they sold it to you is even worse. any respectable store would have told you that they could not sell it until it was healed. i am not familiar with amphibians' diseases, it kind of soulds like a fungus. generally it occurs in patches, can be fuzzy a has discoloration of the skin. i've never encountered a black fungus though. i sincerly hope that you find the treatment. best wishes.
