I recently helped my son build one, but in his garage, so it didn't need to fit in a small space. His is elaborate enough to include a small bar sink, refrigerator, areas for cutting and keeping drink condiments, a back bar for display and storage, etc.
Have you an idea of budget restrictions, and whether or not it will be a built in or perhaps moveable, IE: wheeled?
Will it have plumbing for a sink? OR just be a casual bar/stand with some funcntionality, but also be a conversation/ hanging out spot? I assume since it's in your home it should be aesthetically pleasing. Have you thoughts about it matching any existing furnishings?
Building may be more than you need do, if this is to be a simple storage place for bottles and glasswear, and accessories, plus a serving point as opposed to going back and forth to and from the kitchen.
Is it neccesary to have a back bar? A Bar tender? Or might it be ok as a serve ones self bar?
A simple answer could be a 48 inch high book case, deep enough to allow adequate storage. In addition to that it might be that a desk and matching book unit on top would allow more storage as well as some presentation. Store bought units in combination are really pretty reasonable, for a simple way to go, and are already finished in various ways.
Just some thoughts and suggestions, not knowing your needs or desires.

If you can acquire a large supply of empty beer bottles, you can use them to build a truly one of bar. You need to mix up a stiff mix of concrete and them place a layer of the mix direct on the floor, place bottles on top of this and then fill in the gaps between them. Repeat this until you reach the required height and them top it of with a work top.
