I'm currently volunteer at the hospital, I volunteer at a gift shop. Sometimes I do my best and most the time it hurts when I help out there.
People always give me bad comments on how dumb I must be working the cash machine. Like when a man came, I scaned his items, and I was in middle of transaction, I got stuck on what he was talking about, and everybody was talking and yelling at me. He said "What? You cant do math?"
-I got really angry and confused. I've been doing advanced algbra....That's what I called true math*

I got really confused...I hate when this happens to me. My manager and co-workers say I did a great job.

I hate people when they are being crueled to others I hate them alll!!! Why does this planet has to have an unforgiving people, with heartless hearts.

So heres the question....How can I take the heat being criticized by an older person or others? What suggestions would you give.-Thanks

Just remember that they wish they are cranky and jealous cos they are not young anymore, and they are at a hospital, 90% of the time, they are not there for a pleasant reason. People are there because they are sick and dying. Don't be so hurt by them, they might be hurting as well and not know any better. All that matters about your job is that your co-workers and manager think you are doing an outstanding job. Be strong! Good luck to you!

Bless your heart for volunteering at a hospital! You truly are an example of hope for our country's future.

As the other posters pointed out, people in hospitals are usually under a lot of stress. I'm sure this person took his out on you, the innocent victim. The other thought is that this person is just a jerk, and once again, you were not to blame.

Try to take this less personally. As long as your manager and co-workers have a good opinion of you, to heck with the grouchy customers. Just try to be pleasant and courteous in spite of their nastiness. You know the saying, "Kill them with kindness...". Take a deep breath and tell yourself that you're lucky you aren't that rude and inconsiderate. Then, say a prayer for them if you're religious. That's about all you can do. I can't believe all the customers are so mean and unforgiving....are they?

Keep studying and doing good things and remind yourself that you will NEVER be that way when you are older.

Good luck!

people visiting a hospital are usually in an anxious state of mind and you are taking the " hit". I don't know what is happening to peoples behavior these days. Road rage is a prime example. I suggest that you tell yourself It's him not me!!

You have to remember his comments had nothing to do with you or your math. If he was in the hospital then he might have had some tragedy stressing him out. People tend to blow off steam on innocent victims. I usually try not to internalize it.

Wow....all I can say is that you are a poster child for gun control.

What ever you do,....stay away from guns. You sound like you are just around the corner from going postal.
