I am hoping to buy an Oranda goldfish. I want to buy a smaller one so I can watch it develop. Will a 10 gallon aquarium be large enough? Should I buy two Orandas?

If you can start out with a 20 gallon, that would be PERFECT for two fully grown orandas :) Goldfish do like to have company (to chase and swim around with) and they aren't territorial.
You can put two in a 10 gallon when they're small, but you'll have to move them eventually. If you can get your hands on a 20 gallon, you'll be all set.
Couple of things (if I may :) ): Try to get a filter for your tank that is larger than the tank size. Goldfish put out a lot of ammonia. You should be good with a 20 gallon tank a filter (hang on back is best) for a 30 gallon tank. You don't need to purchase a heater or a thermometer, so you're still ahead :)
As well, if you can toss them a couple of thawed, frozen peas a couple of times a week. It helps with their buoyancy (they are prone to swim bladder disease which makes them float to the top or bottom of the tank upside down ).
Good luck :)

An oranda would be better in a 20 gallon (especially a 20 long) since these fish produce a lot of waste. If you would get a larger tank (a 29 gallon) which takes up the same amount of width and length but is taller, that would be a good tank for two-three. Both tanks would cost about the same. I'm considering the tank sizes for the adult size of the fish. You could put them in a smaller tank, but will need to get a larger one in a few months - why not just put them in the larger tank from the start.

Orandas grow fast, so you may want to just start with a 20 gallon, since they aren't that much more expensive. And if you get two, a 28 gallon or so would last for life, and they would live long and get huge and gorgeous. They could do OK for a little while in a 10 gallon if you get them really small. I love orandas, and have two calico, one red. I would love to get a little red capped one, or a red and black one -- hard to find the blue ones. Good luck!

If you really want to watch them grow you can use a 20 gallon for now when they are babies but upgrade to a 40 or 50, might as well just get the 50 gallon and get 4-5 maybe get a couple Orandas and a couple Ranchus, they are also wonderful goldfish to watch grow, they both have great personalities.

Good luck on your venture!

Well i have three orandas and they are small still and you gotta clean there tank every other day because they are the largest namona producers in the world and no not a ten gallon you should get a 30 gallon that should be big enough or possibly a 25 gallon if you get one the 10 gallon will work untill they get bigger.
