I'd have Gretzky, Messier and Howe as forwards

Defense - Bourque and Orr (we Agree)

Goalie - Brodeur

Messier wasn't primarily a left wing, but he can play there for me. If I have to have a "Real" Left Wing, I'll take Bobby Hull. I don't see how you can take Richard over Howe. And which one of Lemieux or Gretzky ISN'T going to play Center?

Brodeur's incredible season where he started all but 5 games has put him atop Roy in my mind.

None of your choices are "wrong", nor would any of the following be: Steve Yzerman, Ron Francis, Phil Esposito, Doug Harvey, Jacques Plante, Larry Robinson.

Someone is bound to mention Paul Coffey sooner or later. Sorry, but if I'm holding on to a one goal lead there's about 100 other defenseman I want out there first.

I don't see how everyone is picking Gretzky AND Lemieux. They play the same position, if you want an all-time all-star LINE-UP it needs to consists of an all-time great at each position (not 2 centers). Yes maybe a center could play as a LW or a RW, but would they know that position enough to apply their talent to play that position as great as other all-time greats at that position?

These are my APPROPRIATE choices:
Wayne Gretzky at Center
Gordie Howe as my RW
Bobby Hull at the left

On D there would be Bobby Orr for sure and Ray Bourque

and my netminder? why none other than Kirk Maclean because I'm a die hard nuck fan. But my more logical choice would be Patrick Roy

EDIT: This is all-time not just of right now, there are many other greater players than the ones named like Turco, Niedermayer and Crosby.

Very good picks. May I suggest the following:

C- Wayne Gretzky
LW- Luc Robitaille
RW- Gordie Howe
D- Ray Bourque
D- Larry Robinson
G- Terry Sawchuk

Not to take away from what Patrick Roy did as a great goaltender, winning the most playoff and regular season games in NHL history, but Terry Sawchuk held the record for most career regular season wins for about 30 years (447), and still holds the record for career shutouts, finishing with 103, which he will hold at least until the end of next season, which would make it 37 years after his career ended before someone could possibly beat it, though that is not guaranteed, since Brodeur needs 11 shutouts to tie him next year. Plus, he played in the days where you played every night or you didn't eat that week, and they used to play 60 to 70 games a year. Many teams only carried one goalie for most of Sawchuk's career, meaning he would have played a lot of games back in the earlier part of his career. He also played against Maurice "The Rocket" Richard for a little while, as well as guys like Bobby Hull, and eventually against Gordie Howe, all of which are amongst the best players ever to play the game, and also amongst the hardest and most accurate shooters in league history. Now, Roy did have to play against Mario Lemeiux, Wayne Gretzky, Steve Yzerman and Mark Messier, just to name a few, throughout his career, but he had more protective equipment on himself as his career wore on than Sawchuk did during his career, basically playing his entire career with equipment that never changed. That is why Terry Sawchuk is my pick for best goaltender in league history.

I can't say just one single player, but i will give you a single line that i love: The old French Connection of the Buffalo Sabres. Gilbert Perreault, René Robert, and Richard (Rick) Martin were three of the best players to ever play the game. I for one am too young to have ever seen them play live, but I've seen film from their games and I am in pure awe every time I see it. Watching them at my uncles house back home is what started my passion for the game. Gilbert Perreault was one of the fastest and most skilled players on skates for his time. Oh, he also did score a few points a season (16 straight 50+ season, 18 if you count his junior days). Rene Robert provided the offense on one side of Gilbert, with 7 straight 40+ point seasons. Rick Martin was no slouch when it came put putting goals on the board for Buffalo: 9 straight 50+ Seasons. These guys always knew how to put it in the net and they did it with such smooth movements that it was an art to be able to watch them and a skill un-matched to this day by any one line. They were an offensive machine and they also had the guts to back it up. They were not afraid to put another player from the other team on their butts.

As for D and Goalie, i don't really have a personal fav. for either spots. I like Ryan Miller, but he's only been in for a few years, gotta give him some more time. I like the old Zhitnik/Smelik line for buffalo, but again, there were much better and much worse for those spots.

C- Wayne Gretzky
LW- Luc Robitaille
RW- Gordie Howe

D- Vladimir Konstantinov, Nicklas Lidstrom

Goalie- Dominik Hasek

I know this looks like kind of a biased line since all but one play or have played for the Redwings, but it would be a pretty powerful line none the less, only if they were all in their prime of course. Gretzky is just a must, Robitaille was one of the best LW ever, Howe is Mr. Hockey of course. Vladdie didn't score many goals, but neither did the opponants he faced, he got them off their game and off the puck. Lidstrom is poised, smart and good with the puck, and he has one hell of a shot from the blue line. And many would argue my choice in goal, and say Roy would be better, but just watching Hasek play is just amazing, his style well, it just doesn't look right but it works......

With that said,

Go Wings!!!
