Because after Noah came off of the ark, his desendents decided to build a tower to Heaven so that they could not be destroyed by a flood again.
God saw how they were waisting their and not obeying his commandment to go out unto all of the Earth and multiply. So, he confused their languages so that could not comunicate with each other. If they could not comunicate they could not work together. So, they went their seperate ways. With each group speaking a different language.

As humans moved out from east Africa to populate the world, the different groups encountered different pressures.
Animals and birds change their communications according to the part of the world they are and the information they need to transmit.
When groups became isolated and had new experiences and pressures, they met them with different approaches. Because we are human and our primary communications tool is our language, we changed so that we could pass information about the environment quickly to others.
This has developed into the very powerful tool we now have.
Language - if isolated will change in approximately 200 years.
Take English. Started as the language of a small tribe on the west coast of Europe. in 400 to 600 AD that tribe with the Angles and the Saxons occupied what is now England. The Celts were pushed into Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Cornwall. They kept their language for many years and indeed the attempts to wipe out Welsh have failed. That is because now language has a national identity as well as an environmental need.
English developed over the last 1400 years into the language we now know because the way we lived. It is now evolving into American, which is the world language because of American TV and commerce.
Indeed langiuage has mimicked our own phisical evolution, IE helping us 'FIT' into our environment

because people where in different areas before mass communication was very easly done. IF as a race we would have had the internet to talk to each other when we first started out lol lol we probably wouldnt have had as many differences in our language. Also there is power to be gained by having the people under you not speak your enemys language and the people with the most knowledge and power early on where the ones that set the rules so they had the ability to make new languages / words and enforce them this probably had something to do with it. Its like encrypted code in a sense If you and your family speak a language no one else does you can pretty safely go anywhere and talk about anything and other people will not be able to listen in. I would probably say that its just a part of evolution or something...

Language is a form of communication. In the past, when there was no internet and the transportation was not as advance as now. People from different parts of the world live in the "own world'. Thus they developed different type of languages to communication among their "own world". That's why there are many languages in the world.

Language reinvention was due to insufficiency in the communication. The need for more word to emphasis a meaning, partly to beliefs and cultural influences became apparent in the diversity of languages. Moreover, the absence of conformity had encouraged the growth of words that eventually form the basis of a language. The rudiments of languages have since been conformed for an overall acceptance.

There are two theories coming from two very different mindsets:
1. People were scattered around, and came up with their own ways of communicating.
and
2. People built a tall building and god got mad and destroyed it and then assigned each person a different language and territory.
Well, for me #1 is the right answer. I guess you can all choose which one you think makes more sense.

Just as human physiology undergoes the changes effected by the need of the situation, the communication that evolves out of such a kind of body, shaped by food, topography etc also evolves to suit the situation.

There are different languages because we all are different. Countries have developed their own ways of life, and thus, languages have evolved to reflect each culture and society.

People develop language to communicate. Eskimos would have more words for snow then people in other climates for example, thus their vocabulary would be different.
