I have a lots of big files on my laptop that i want to transfer to my pc. I think it would be more convenient to do so if my two computers are connected - and i don't have to buy blank DVD's.

I don't have those cable thingies used for LAN (or something), I only have firewire. My pc can connect through 1394, so does my laptop, but I don't know how.

Could you guys spare a few simple instructions on how to connect two computers using 1394?

Connect the 1394 / Firewire cable to both machine...Wait about 2 to 3 minutes...Each machine will get assigned an APIPA 169 IP address.

After the 2 to 3 minutes - (From the machine you want to move files to) Click start run type in cmd - hit enter. In the command line type in ipconfig - One of the IP's listed should be for your 1394 connection. Write down or remember that ip

Create a shared folder on that machine (Unless you already have one)

Go to the other machine - Click start run and type in \\the ip - example \\169.254.255.101 - Click OK - Move the files to the shared folder

First there is a 15 foot limitation in a firewire network. So move the computers close to each other.

Second, purchase a firewire network cable like the ones on the below link. you will need a 6pin to 6pin cable to go between computers.

Third you will have to manually setup the IP addresses of the firewire connections, just like you would on a ethernet connection.

That should be it......
