After the Civil War, during the so-called Reconstruction era, the term slavery was outlawed and replaced by the more political correct term of the time...indentured servitude (albeit voluntary), which by all intents and purposes kept the plantation owners and rich southerners a workforce that toiled for them at a cheap price. While the Civil War ended involuntary servitude, it would take some time for voluntary servitude to end.

Basically, being an indentured servant meant you were working to get out of debt being obligated to someone via a binding contract.....in my opinion, just another form of slavery.

Well, if you happen to travel to Sudan, there is a legal slave market in Khartoum. For a simple fee of 100- 120 US$ you can buy a slave. Is this evidence enough?
