Martin Luther king believe in non-violence civil disobedience. King also believed in working with whites in order to establish civil rights for african americans. He also believed in integrating African Americans into american society , so they can be treated as equals. Martin Luther KIng's philosophy was also rooted in part on Christianity and also on fulfilling the american dream

ON the other hand, Malcolm X did not believe in "turn the other cheek", he believe in using force in self defense if necessary. Malcolm X also believed that african americans would achieve more rights if they first coalesced and came together as a people, without the help of whites. He did not believe in forming alliances with whites. For a long time Malcolm X actually favored separation of the races. Finally Malcolm X's were strongly shaped by his Muslim beliefs. He strongly believed in the power of Islam to confront the white establishment and to free african americans from their "slave mentality", as he put it.

But they also had similarities as well, especially during their later years of each others lives...Thus they both became very concerned with economic inequalities...they agreed that urban inequality need3ed to be addressed. They were both very internationalist in scope, and linked the struggle of black people with the struggles of blacks in africa but also the anti colonial struggle in the third world as well. They both were rooted in the religious traditions...much of what they said was framed by their religious philosophies. And Finally, toward Malcolm's later life, he began to acknowledge that indeed there were some good, well meaning white poeple and he was not totally opposed to working with them.
