Can fish eat fruit like apples?

Question

This may sound like a stupid question. Can fish be given fruit like apples (of course in really tiny bits), or any fruit at all? I know you can put lettuce or other leafy vegetables in, but I'm just curious about fruit. I did a search and could not find anything. Thanks for any answers I get!

Fruits are fine for herbivores or omnivores as long as they eat them! Don't let them sit too long in the tank as they will start to decompose. My severum likes his kiwi :) Maybe he thinks he's an Australian Rainbowfish? lol

Yes not only can they be given fruit, but you are supposed to give them fruit atleast once a week. Your question is not stupid at all its just that you dont know the answer and thats what were here to help you with. There are no stupid questions only stupid people.
You are supposed to feed your fish lettuce, oranges, apples, and other vegetables and fruits atleast once a week to give them a balanced diet.

Sorry, I have no clue. I've given my fish lettuce, and they love zucchini. Also, I've seen at Petsmart they have orange slices in the goldfishs' tanks. They seem to love it. That's the only fruit I've ever heard of giving a fish. Good luck!
(The poster before me said that you're SUPPOSED to give fish fruit, but you don't have to..as long as you give them food flakes or something.)

You can but I've never had any fish that would eat fruit or veggies. I tried putting zucchini and cucumbers in my tanks with corys and tetras but they never touched them. The otos ate some of the cucumbers from time to time but not the other fish.

Sure you can. Of course, only herbivores will eat it well, but it's a good thing to give some to strictly or mostly herbivorous fishes Fish such as goldfish and pacu love fruit.
