Canada has been letting a lot of people in for the past 30 yrs

Some speak English some don't most speak it so badly they can't be understood without a lot of patience although they often claim they speak it fluently

I personally belive that if you can't speak the launguage fluently then you are a danger in the work place

You must be able to give and recieve instruction clearly and quickly or you become dangerous to others -

I don't see the problem with inacting a law that says

Before you come here you must pass this written and oral test in either English or French or I am sorry but you can't come here

If you can only pass the test in French then you have to settle in Quebec and thats that .

Who believes this would be a good law ?

What stops immigration Canada and the government from such a seemingly common sense thing ?

In Australia our government is in the process of making tests like this compulsory for new immigrants also they will have to pass a citizenship test which is a basic knowledge of our history and culture.

Because it's exactly that: common sense. You'll never get it past the Ontario Grits or the NDP whackos Canada-wide.

I am fluent in both English and French, yet there are places in Montréal where I cannot communicate. That's just wrong.

BTW, you should add New Bruswick to the list of options for people who are proficient in French only. New Brunswick has the distinction of being Canada's only officially bilingual province.

This sounds similar to what alot of people in the USA say.

Common problem it sounds like in countries that have a heavy amount of immigration.

I dont expect people to have mastered the language where they go, but a willingness to 'try' and learn it would be nice.

Many immigrants in the USA dont want to learn it, this is quite common for hispanic immigrants. They have kids and teach them spanish first instead of english. Not sure why they want to do that but. Yea its an issue.

I think it would be a bad idea. Canada would be innundated by American immigrants seeking a land where they can understand what people are saying.
