I think what you're feeling might be "sciatica"... it's your sciatic nerve. I started getting the pain early on like you, and it comes and goes. Sometimes it gets really bad, so I have to hobble around like an old woman. Getting off my feet seems to be the only relief.
In the beginning it felt like I'd fallen off a horse and landed on my tailbone. :)
Yes, it's a common pregnancy malady. You can try taking Tylennol and using heat/cold compresses, but laying down might be all you need.
The sciatica is MUCH easier to deal with than the muscle spasm I was having.

Shoot! That sucks! My baby broke my tailbone coming out, 19 months ago! It still really hurts. I'm 10 weeks pregnant now, and just called to make an appt. with a chiropractor. If your tailbone is already hurting, you may have alignment issues and need an adjustment. Make sure you bring it up with your doc, too.

My lower back also hurt the whole time I was pregnant. The only good part about it was the back rubs that I got everyday like 3 times a day from my husband!! I also would use a heating pad everyonce in a while, but only for a few mins at a time.

any severe pain in pregnancy this early on is not normal. Call your Ob/Gyn now. I will not make a guess on this - you should speak to your doctor right away. Be sure to think carefully if you may have strained your back or injuried it in some way b4 calling so your doc can have all necessary info to help you.-but call regardless. It is always best to call rather than delay - your doc is used to these type of issues

Its normal. I had from my 3rd month till the day I had my daughter. It hurt and is uncomfortable. My dr had me go and get those icy hot patches and they helped. I also got the therma back wrap too. I would double check with your dr before trying them just in case. I never heard a woman yet tell me she didn't have back pain from being pregnant so don't worry to much but if it gets really bad go see your dr. Take care
