I think the song is Mozart's and it is very famous but I dont remember the name. It is for organ & it normally shows on scary movies or gothic ones.

Is the opening melody line just a single line of notes without chords under it that goes:
A G A - GFEDC#- D-? Yeh, I thought so.

The most famous piece for organ is probably J.S Bach's toccata in D minor.

A famous piece by Mozart that may have been used in horror films but that doesn't use an organ is lacrimosa (or lacrymosa) from his requiem.
