Greetings! Thank you so much for stumbling upon my mere message, for I am having trouble substituting a phrase:

What is another way of saying "drive away"

In this context: One should limit homework for it inteferes with self-duties, limits lifestyle, and "drives away" extra curricular activities and programs.

Since I am on the subject of vocabulary is another synonom for "Defer" submit?

Hello there,

As well as all the other suggestions, you could use "curtails", or "curbs"... "constrains" is also a good one, although someone else may have already thought of it before me.

To "defer" could be "adjourn, delay, hold over, postpone, procrastinate, prorogue, protract, put off, put on ice, shelve, suspend, waive" or, alternatively could be "accede, bow, capitulate, comply, give way, knowtow, respect, submit, yield" (depending on the meaning you are after). Hope these help:

Regards,

Crafty

I always use http://thesaurus.reference.com/

Exclude, prohibit, and obstruct are all pretty good words to use. Relegate is another good word but you would have to slightly alter the sentence.

Acquiesce, or capitulate may be good synonyms for defer in this context.

Homework always overshadows extra curricular activities if you let it.

How about "discourages?" Or: hinders, deters, impedes, inhibits, thwarts, prevents, restricts, banishes, abolishes, or ousts...
And I agree. I soooo don't miss homework.
