P.S. I reserve the right to cast stones, as you all who are free should as well. As a cynic, I sometimes can't resist pointing out the absurd. And boy, does the world give us a lot to work with! Thank you to all who answered with a ribbon of humor in your words. You just gotta love the people who take it so seriously. What else can we do with them, anyway?

The Catholic Church has never claimed to have all the answers. There are many mysteries in Christianity.

One of these mysteries lies in the statement of Jesus Christ, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)

For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. It may be true that unbaptized babies go to heaven but we cannot be sure because the Bible does not reveal this answer to us.

Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine.

The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it does not fall into the entire picture of God's loving plan of salvation as depicted in the Bible.

The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.

I would think people would appreciate that the Church does not declare unbiblical things as doctrine without very serious thought and prayer.

With love in Christ.

You're probably thinking of Purgatory, not Limbo. I believe in older Catholic teachings they were two different things. Purgatory was a place where souls went with minor(venial)sins, while Limbo was where the souls of unbaptized babies went after their death(those that died soon after birth).

I realize your question was intended as a joke or sarcasm, but that's okay. Here's another one from George Carlin: what about all those people that are in hell because they ate meat on Fridays before the church decided that it was no longer a sin to eat meat on Fridays?

There never really was such a place – there were references to Abrahams Bosom. The sad part is that it is easy to throw rocks at some institution or someone who believes something different then you do. It’s a little harder to be tolerant like most say they are.

If you are interested in this or any other subject – get out of moms basement, turn off the TV and read. Its hard but it is a sign of maturity to be able to form opinions with out some taking head telling you what to believe.

Limbo was created by the catholic church- that doesn't mean it existed. Actually, I believe (biblically) that it never existed- it is a moot point.
