mine had the same problem,, had to clean the exhaust and the air filter and it worked fine after that. The exhaust had carbon like build up,, from the 2-cycle oil I guess..??

If you may have the belief, pull the muffler off of the engine. If the within of the cylinder and/or the skin of the piston is gouged or scarred, you'll must change it. Chances are it both did not have ample oil, or it had the improper style of oil in it. DO NOT use boat engine two stroke oil. It won't lubricate an air cooled engine competently, they run too sizzling and burn the oil proper out of the gasoline. If making a decision to exchange the desktop, do your self a want and pass purchase a Stihl or an Echo. These are prime high-quality machines, that with right preservation will final for years. Don't pass to Wal Mart or the Home Depot and anticipate high-quality. But if the engine is shot, it will rate as so much to repair as a brand new desktop could rate, potentially extra.

You've had good previous answers.
I don't think that higher octane gas is a good idea.
If you cleaned the air filter did you put too MUCH oil in it?
Did you clean or replace the gas tank filter?
Sounds to me like the carb is starving for air.

Take the muffler off, somewhere (probably behind it) you will find a small piece of screen like material. This is a spark arrest-er. Either take it out or clean it really good. Your weedwacker should run fine.
To put it in a sick term, the engine is constipated. If it idles OK but won't run at higher rev's this should take care of it.

I doubt it. But the 87 is cheaper and just as good.
It may be running a little too rich. Did you check the air filter, is it dirty?
