That's too old a car to start pouring money into. If you managed to find an honest, competent mechanic that would put a good used engine in for $1200 or so, there'd be a hundred other things waiting in line to go out.
Don't listen to the nitwits who tell you to add junk to the coolant to seal the leak.
If the car is in great shape and the mechanic is a good one, you could go for the gasket, but that gasket blew for a reason. If the engine was overheated, a lot of other things might be damaged.

To get a factory rebuilt engine for this car will cost you more than the car is worth...as in over $2,000 USD (just for the engine, not counting the Labor cost to have your old engine R&R) in the US. Therefore, it would be more cost effective to simply replace the car. Sorry, but unless you want to spend a BUNDLE "restoring" it it's just not worth it.

A close friend of mine just traded in his 99 Pontiac Grand Prix with a blown engine to Ford and got a BRAND NEW Focus. If you have good enough credit and can afford close to $350 a months for payments you might try that route. That 2007 Focus came with one heck of a warrenty package, including maintenance!!!

Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

I don't think you an find a new motor for $400. but I will sugest to buy a new car you are going to spend aruond $700.00 + to get this one fixed (new head gasket, head refurbish, and labor ) very expensive to fix a 94 sable. sorry.

You were told it 's a bad head/ gasket. Quick ! , everyone jump on the band wagon. What if it's only a leaky trans cooler in the radiator. Have that checked out first, that you can do for less then $400.

first of all it could be just a blown head gasket.Second the cheapest route would be to get a head from a salvage yard and replace yourself or someone you know that can.You should be able to get by with around a hundred this way.Yes its serious.

flush the cooling system and put some bars-leak in it,but get the kind with the pellets,it seems to work a little bit better.
