It depends on what you would want to be able to do with the drive.
If you want maximum ability to conect it to other computers make sure it has Firewire aka 1394, USB 2.0, and and exteran sSATA ports.
If you will be carring it aound you want one with a shock proof or shock resistant drive cage.
Big thing though is to make sure it has a connector that is compatible with your PC. Probably your PC has USB 2.0, and most this is the most common interface for external drives so you should be fine with that.

I have a Western-Digital 120-GB external drive. It uses USB connector to connect to my PC. It's been about 4-years now and still working perfectly. But there might be newer models now.
I also recommend Maxtor external hard-drive.

Buy any external hardrive u want to buy, but just keep in mind, the port its gonna connect at, it has limited speed, like usb port has lower speed than firewire port.
So try to avoid USB connector.

Maxtor has always been good for me i bought a 400Gb one a few months back and its as easy as plugging it into my USB port then transferring via copy/paste over to it, Good speeds on the transfers also so you dont have to sit there all night waiting.

Maxtor. Or maybe not, cause my Maxtor broke. I guess anything's good, and when it breaks just get a new one. I don't think they're that expensive. Why don't you just get yourself a new computer, they're getting cheap now. One with 200 GB for like, $500.
