It depends on the state AND the age of the party (not the 18 year old). In certain states, if the parties are BOTH between 17 and 20, then there is no crime. However - it is certainly NOT that way in every state. Before you participate (ok it's for a friend) check the state laws where you plan to have this consentual sex.
WARNING: NOT A GOOD IDEA FOR ANYONE 17 TO BE HAVING SEX WITH ANYONE.

depends on the state, many states put a clause in the statutory rape law to allow for teenagers when one reaches 18 before the other. i know a few states the law states that if there is not more than 2 years difference in age and the younger party is over 16 its ok. you would have to look at your individual states laws to find out for sure
