Please keep in mind as I agree we tend to concentrate on our own small problems day in and day out, most of us are aware that there are more serious problems out here. A person that is passionate about all of these more serious problems does tend to want to shake everyone around them up to see them. Also keep in mind that these things plus world hunger, child and spousal abuse, illiteracy, and too many others to list are pushed aside. It's not that their neglect of these are causing the smaller problems in their lives. These serious problems have been around for hundreds of years and will still continue as long as mankind is here on Earth. Remember the sanity prayer about controlling what we have the power to and let go what we can't. A good taste of reality is seeing what happens to a person's legacy when they pass away. Everyone still has bills to pay, chores to do, and worries to address. The world never stops just because a person dies. That's reality. One person may have some power to make changes to the world they live in, but that power is very small and very limited. We will continue to try to make our own little worlds easier to live in and try to help as many others as we can, but I don't have the energy to take on the major problems that face us. That's better left to someone younger than me with a lifetime to put in the effort.

People, in general, are not concerned with the problems of the world unless it affects them immediately. If they have nothing to gain by fixing a world problem, they simply are not interestedd. Besides, most people do not have the time to address world issues. We are all to busy trying to survive, keep a job, etc., so that we can hire politicians to make policy to make the world a better place. It's their job not ours. If they don't do a good job, we fire them thru elections and hire someone else in hopes they will do better. Yes, relationships seem trivial in comparison to war, famine, disease, violence, drugs, and so on, but relationships among people are the most important factor in getting things done. If you personal life is in jeopardy, you really will not be interested in this life or making it better for anyone else anywhere else.

Just because people are interested in the things that both they can control and directly affect them, does not mean they are not interested in bigger issues.
This is an example of an argument problem called a false choice or false dichotomy. Because, your argument is flawed, you come to all sorts of incorrect conclusions, and therefor either do not understand the problem, or come up with non-sensical solutions.
Good Luck

i think it's a matter of priorities. one has to take care of their own problems before they can take care of the rest of the world. world problems are our problem, but we are depending on others (those that are more knowledgeable in those problem areas)to tackle those problems. we do what we can whether it be recycling, keeping our vehicles tuned, not using our fireplaces, etc. perhaps the idea of a one government world isn't such a bad idea. it would eliminate conflicting governments so we can all be on the same page, work towards common goals.

And you've only scratched the surface of the problems out there, as I'm sure you're aware. Sometimes I wonder if the ignorance is truly ignorance, or whether it's a case of "Not my problem" or "I don't care".
Ignorance and intolerance, the two big problems...

Think about the problems some. Do not dwell on them. Live life and be happy and think about small things sometimes. You do not have to be serious all the time. Just have you time.
