NEVER give your baby sugar water.

As long as your baby is drinking formula or breastmilk, he doesn't need regular water either. He will get all the hydration he needs from the bottles you are already giving him.

As long as your baby is gaining weight at a good pace, spitting up is normal. However, if it really is excessive, or he is not gaining weight, he may have acid reflux. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor.

In the meantime, you can try limiting the amount you put in each bottle, and feeding him more often.

You can also make sure to keep him upright for 20 minutes after feeding him.

Your doctor may recommend putting rice cereal in the bottle, or prescribe an acid reflux medication. (My baby is on zantac)

Good luck!

ask your pediatrician before you give your baby water or add anything to the water.

There should be no reason for a healthy [1 month old] baby to spit up most of the feedings unless there is a digestive problem. See your pediatrician!!!

For a 1 month old infant - 7 bottles a day sounds like a lot but you didn't say how many ounces is in each bottle.

if your baby is only a month old then there is absolutely no need for him to be drinking anything besides formula or breast milk. Water does not give them any nutrition, so when you substitue his formula or breast milk with water, you are taking away what he needs. If he is spitting up, make sure that you are burping him after every feeding and between feedings. If that does not help, then call your pedia. She/He can better assist you and your baby in this problem. Good luck and remember to stop giving that baby water!

I didn't give my daughter juice until she was 12 months old. Even then, only on occasion. She is 3 now and only drinks milk and water, and its her preference because that's what she grew up drinking! I give her fresh fruit instead. :) When my daughter was constipated, i would feed her prunes, but if she's only 3 months and not eating babyfood, i'd say prune juice would be a good bet for you. I have also heard that any fruit starting with a P is good for constipation. Actually, Apples are part of the BRAT diet, so giving her apple juice would actually do the opposite. If your child has diarrhea, you're supposed to feed them the BRAT diet (Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast).

I don't think that they recommend any amount of water until baby is at least 3 months old, and even then my pediatrician said only little bits here and there.

The spiting up may be acid reflux. Try feeding him semi upright ( like in a car seat) and leaving him in that position until his belly settles, or enfamil AR is designed for babies who spit up a lot. You should try that for a week or two and see if it helps. It is just a thicker formula and is supposed to help keep it down.

Sugar water is only supposed to be given in very small amounts to calm a crying baby. It is not to be put in a bottle for drinking, just in a syringe or on the end of their pacifier or bottle nipple.
My son was given sugar water in a very small syringe when he was two weeks old to calm his crying because he had severe reflux and the crying aggravates it.
He was in the NICU for 6 weeks and the nurses and doctors gave it. It is not meant to substitute any milk or food substance at all. Like I said, just to soothe them.
Most people don't even know that it soothes a crying baby. If you give a small amount and it doesn't help the crying, don't keep giving it. Sugar in large doses is not good for a baby. But neither is Rum, and yet people use it all the time for teething. It is all meant to be in very small amounts.
Good luck

Most probably your baby has colic.Keep the baby elevated after every feed for 15-30 min.try burping after every 1-1 1/2 oz.
You can try drinking fennel seed water if you are breastfeeding.it helps both mom and baby.
Water helps to reduce constipation but doctor says for first 3 month of life babies don't need any extra water.
But mine said it wa sok to feed baby couple of babyspoons of water thru the day.

Do NOT give a 1 mos old baby water!!!!! He does not need it. Breastmilk or formula is mostly water. Giving him water can actually be DANGEROUS. It can cause water intoxication, which is a SERIOUS condition. It can cause baby to take in less breastmilk or formula and result in poor weight gain.

And why in the world would you want to give baby SUGAR water? What purpose would that serve? No nutrients. No calories. Nothing baby needs.

What? Sugar water?

You do not feed a baby any water until they are eating solids.

You need to take your baby to a pediatrician if he is spitting most of it up. He may have colic or reflux.
