As a person builds points, they are sort of building a reputation. To a certain extent, a person with more points is more likely to be a reliable source. However, you have to take the total points with the percentage of right answers because there are people who go through and answer many questions with very short answers just for the sake of points.

When evaluating a person's credibility, you should also look at the categories their best answers fall under. Someone who is knowledgeable about computers may have a high best answer percentage, but that doesn't mean they know anything about relationships.

Personally, I think it's a load of crap that they TAKE AWAY points when you ask a question.

I thought we were all here to help everyone....why take my points away by keeping this going?

I think the idea of point system is to 'prove' you are a so-called expert. What gets me, though, is that people get on here and ask questions like "who's going to win the foot ball game tonight?" And points are given for an answer?

Crazy....but I'm still here LOL so I guess I'm buying into the whole thing LOL
I guess it's cool to think that you can share your experiences with others that might be in the same boat, but are afraid to ask someone they know for fear of ridicule.

I guess I rambled a little bit...and I'm sorry lol....hope you have a great day!

Thanks...

just a way to tll who has been doing more on here. You ask and lose a couple. Pick the best answer and get a few and answer others. If people did not play so much you would be able to se who answers might be better or who gives good advice. But not a real way to see who knows so just fun.

I don't know. At first I was just asking a question (that did not get answered correctly). Then I found myself answering questions one day. It really is addictive.

The points are your "fix" for the Yahoo!Answers addiction! They are an incentive for you to keep sharing your knowledge and experiences.
