I dropped out 3 months prior to graduation.
I was bored.
I was no longer learning anything I felt I needed.
I could read and write well enough to be understood.
I could do my numbers well enough for my interests
I understood enough basic science to keep myself safe, healthy etc...
I knew events happened in the past and we should not repeat most of what we learned. I did not care about the dates, its irrelevant anyway.
I played football so didnt need gym
I sang in the choir and played an instrument at home since I was 5 so I had my music covered
Still a pretty good painter since all my work sells.
Study hall and lunch was the only periods I liked cause I got to socialize.
So I quit, joined the Army, went to Nam,came home went to college for a year (got my 2 year degree) and went to work raising a family.
Oh yeah, Army gave me my GED training.
Took all 5 tests in one day before lunch.
High school is not allthat great a deal you know.
I did not get upset when my daughter quit either.
Shes smarter than I am. (Thankfully she credits me for that)
I have a high IQ but seldom show it. I always use it tho.
Common sense is a more powerfull learning tool than books anyway.
What do I care what year the emancipation proclamation was signed. I know it was signed.
What do I care when The A Bomb was dropped. It was dropped.
Since leaving high school, I have never been required to parse a sentence or dangle my participles.
I have never been denied a promotion because I did not know when the Magna Carta was signed.
My science knowledge has been increased through job training requirements and practical experience. And I still cant do algebra and never had to.
Give me a corporate annual report and I can anylise it for you,
I can audit your books, and increase your revenue usually after studying your operations. I know how to do algebra but not the formulas and I could not show my kids how to do it.My brain just does it for me .
And in todays world a high school diploma and $3.00 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. And maybe a minimum wage job. If it has not been sent to Malaysia or Bangladesh.
Cant outsource McDonalds tho. So americans will keep working

Some fall so far behind that they can't see a way to catch up.
Some come from families where MANY members haven't graduated, so they don't see the importance.
Some get involved with the wrong kinds of people, and allow themselves to be influenced by them.
Some have children during school and THINK they need to quit school to support them. They don't understand that it's hard to support a single person when you can't find a job that pays over minimum wage.
Some are just down right lazy. They'll make up excuses like...the teachers never liked me, or ...I don't need to know that stuff...but school isn't daycare. You actually have to put forth an effort, and learn a coping skill or two. You won't get along with everyone no matter where you are, so if you're smart...you'll do the work and graduate in spite of the negatives.

At one time people dropped out of school to help a financially strapped family,or they thiught they could get by without it,these are rarely the reasons now.I do know that when kids do drop out due to failing grades, pregnantcies and lack of parental support etc.they all regret it! u simply cannot do well without an education in the world today,it is a must and one should stick with it no matter what.these years are going to go by no matter what u are doing u may as well do something productive, right?

There is a huge variety of reasons why people drop out of school... is there any particular age group you ned to go on?
some young kids may drop out of school because parents may not be able to affrod a house therefore some children and families are left to survive on the streets, old teenagers may think that school is dumb and they can not find anything better to do with it and just stop going, some people or most of all have drug problems which lead to skiping classesa and eventually expeltion of school meaning they are not aloud back. A lot of people drop out of school , or should i say young women drop out of school because they may become pregnant. There are a few reasons for your essay... but one thing people should learn is there is no good reason to drop out of school, what are they going to do with their life, do they not want to become someone that can make a difference, because not everything is going to be as easy as school is, everything is handed to you there, unlike the real world it is a scarey place in which we live, so be smart and stay in school for that is where your true future lies.
And i hope i helped out a little... if you would like to help me out that would be awesome i am doing an essay on Romeo and Juliet... who is truely to blame for their deaths, check it out !

Well, I personally didn't drop out of high school but my husband did. He did because he was bullied alot. And rather then put up with it he dropped out and got his GED. I think the main reason that people drop out. Is...
1.) Alot of the times certian teens just get sick of the drama that there is in high school.
2.) They get bullied and can't take the people there.
3.) They just don't care and give up.
Now there's probably more reasons but those are just from people that I know that've dropped out.

A lot of women drop out of high school if they get pregnant. Some people drop out and run away, or work full time, or engage in shady activities. It depends on the person's circumstances.

a lack of motivation or poor role model's in their lives. possibly they have parent's who could care less. also possibly the feeling that they don't fit in. they can't keep up with what the other student's are wearing and doing socially so they take that feeling away by leaving the situation they're in and probably disguising their feelings by trying to act tough and act like they don't need school.

Simple. Some people don't need it. It can be faster depending on your goals.
If you drop out of highschool, get your GED, (which is an equivalent to a highschool diploma) you can get into a college or community college, depending on what field you want to study.
For some people, its just faster. My brother in 11th grade dropped out, got his GED, went to a community college and got a job as a hydraulic engineer.
There are more stable, steady-paying, reliable, BENEFITS GIVING jobs which are technical compared to jobs which require completion of what are called "liberal arts" education (not to be confused with any political stance).
Dropping out doesn't mean you are stupid, it just means you have different goals in life. If you want to learn about psychology, astronomy, physics, philosophy, fine. Go to a library. If you want a job in one of these areas, you're going to have to go to a university that gives you a ticket showing you completed a course in the work, not that you didn't know it before.

Most of the people I know who drop out do not understand why school is necessary.
