It might be that it is human nature that drives this competition. However, like some of the other posts have said, until a fundamental change occurs in humans that alters their behavioral patterns, we can expect these sorts of violent actions to continue.

Evidence strongly suggests that our ancestors were just as aggressive as we are today, competing for resources. This is in line with our order however, as it is very clear that several types of apes and monkeys engage in "warlike" behavior and murder. Indeed, baboons regularly rally their troops like a warband and engage other troops outright for resources. Chimpanzees have been seen to commit murder, and engage in war like behaviors.

So, it would seem reasonable that hopefully whatever it is that is separating us from our more primitive ancestors and other members of the animal kingdom is also pushing us in a direction that might help us become a more docile and less greedy/violent species. Increased capacity for sentience comes to mind.

This is certainly a truth, and it will not change until fundamental human nature evolves -- a dim prospect, I am afraid. The war in Iraq is a resource war. Make no mistake of that. A study of conflict theory will make this clear to you. I anticipate resource wars to continue, on one level or another, for the next two thousand years. Conflict theorists agree with this prognosis. It is kind of sad, isn't it?

Of course and the difference between right and wrong is clear. The story of Cain and Able shows wrongfull killing, the Adam and Eve thing in the garden shows theft, and the story of Moses wondering around killing everyone who is different and then taking their properties shows the correct way.
