I had one because it was an emergency. I was in labor for over 16 hours first and I would have really rather NOT had the surgery but I had no choice. Now I get to have another one because my doc. recommends it. Woo Hoo. :(

Some women need a c-section cause the baby is in danger like my first child i had to have an emergency c-section and found out the umbilical cord was tied in a knot so tight that if he was in the womb any longer he would have sufficated.
Also the baby could be way to big to go through the birth canal or other complications with the mother etc.

There are several reasons. most of them are medical. For instance, my sister in law cannot (physically) give birth naturally, her birth canal is not situated properly for it, rather than being curved back like most women, she's straight. Which makes it impossible to deliver naturally. Other women don't have a wide enough pelvis, or their body does not dialate enough or the baby goes into distress. There are several reasons for C-Sections. Almost always there is a medical reason for it. Although they're moving more away from it now, it used to be that if you had one c-section you would not be able to deliver naturally with any children after that.

There are a number of medical conditions but sometimes the mothers pelvis is too small (or baby too big), baby is in breech position (upside down) or an emergancy c-section might have to be done if labour has been going on & on & on & the baby just cant come out. I dont believe people should just choose to have one for the convenience, if there is no reason. Natural birth is much better for you.

I could be medically necessary if the baby is in distress and needs to be born NOW. Some doctors like to do them because the births are then scheduled, rather than left to mother nature (ie in the middle of the night, on a holiday, or when he wants to visit Tahiti).

Loads of reasons. Some do it cos it convenient and they can plan when the baby comes, some do it cos they don't want to show the world their bits (lol) and can't deal with pain, some do it 'cos they have to and it's an emergency situation. Having had the latter one I wouldn't recommend it but each to their own.

you would only want or need to have one if there is a high risk, they wont just do a c-section as your choice. OR at least i dont think they will. They will do it if you have somthing wrong with you or baby, or if its an emergency.

Ive had two, because both my children were upside down, mthey will only do c_sections if they think either the child is in destress, or you have a small pelvis, and they think you won't be able to deliver baby, i hope this helps.
