Any scientist that said Jews and Gypsy's were inferior got funding and they got to live - and often in nice houses

Scientists that did not come up with reasearch to support his political conclusion had life explained to them in a back alley way and if that did't work - dead

All educators that didn't tow the party line - dead etc

All liberals and all intilectuals were replaced with more suitable persons who came to "better" conclusions

Why do you suppose he was so afraid of them - why did he have to eliminate them so quiclky

Do you see evidence of this mentality in today's society ? On a lesser scale or even just the attitudes that would support this mentality ?

Absolutely - when manipulating the public, education just gets in the way.

I'm not so sure on the "liberals" label - suffice it to say that anyone not part of the plan became at best - unnecessary.

I think it is rather pointless and irrational to compare Liberals in America today with any poltical parties in the past, because we are what we are today, and where we stand on today's issues doesn't compare well with other liberal movements around the world or in the past. Intellectuals in America right now tend to be leftist rather than rightest, and since I am a big fan of intelligensia, that is the way I lean, too. People can call me liberal, but I think I am right, LMAO. DON'T WE ALL!!! :D

I guess he eliminates all opposition from credible people which may have influence over others.

It's a bit what Bush is doing now with all scientists and university professors that say 9/11 is still unanswered and the government is hiding (destroyed) evidence. They call everyone "conspiracy nuts" and try to discredit them on a personal level rather than intellectual although most of them are well educated with PhDs.

It's politics... and sadly enough it's happening right now.

Keep in mind that 'intellectual' and 'liberal' don't always mean the same thing. Hitler did eliminate intellectuals, and communists, and homesexuals, for that matter, fairly early on. It is a prudent part of siezing power to eleminate rivals for power, and the leadership of political movements - 'liberal' or 'conservative' or 'fascist' or communist or whatever - tends to come from among intellectuals. There were intellectuals who supported National Solcialism - you could tell them by the way they continued breathing after the Night of Long Knives.

There's a bit of an heroic myth that's grown up around that very pragmatic purge-your-enemies apraoch. It paints any bohemian philosophizing at the local Starbucks as a sort of hero who makes rightwing thugs shake in thier jackboots. Giving anyone who wants it permission to see themselves as intellectually superior and heroic, simply by identifying with a certain set of political beliefs.

Today, in the US, the tactic for eliminating rivals to power is to smear them in the press, abridge thier right to free speach, and generally shout them down. This is a democracy, and you don't have to kill people to sieze power, you just have to shut them up. (Think for a moment about who gets shut up these days).

So, no, there's little of the kind of fascist mentality that birthed the Third Riech in the US today. The worst political bullies do in 21st Century America is quash the carreers of those who spout the wrong viewpoints.

You may be mixxed up here. Adolph hitler, like joe stalin was a liberal. Both hitler/stalin leaned hard to the left. Liberals ALWAYS BELEIVE IN more GOVERNMENT & LESS individual FREEDOMS. Liberals also beleive in COLLECTIVE rights for a society meaning a communal approach, or, literally communism. Most liberals, wheather they will admit it or not, have a strong desire to climb the "tower of power", have a "god complex" & desire to be "over" others.
As far as killing off the intellectuals, ANY "power broaker" does not want people with "brains" around him/her as brains mean power & is a threat to THE power broaker.
Regarding adolph's "war on the liberals"...the liberals adolph was going after were "stalin backers". Hitler sent out HIS liberals, the SA & SS to quelch "big Joe's" liberals so as to remain top dog & hold the reigns of power.
Hitler was NOT a "right winger" as is so often promoted. People that lean to the right generally beleive in the pursuit of ASOLUTE FREEDOM up to the point of absolute freedom turning into anarchy.

Well, in Cambodia and several other countries intellectuals were killed on a large scale. Usually, in any totalitarian or authoritarian regime, intellectuals represent the main threat for the dictators. Intelligensia can see through the ******** and propaganda that is directed to mask atrocities.

You must be talking about today's liberal/progressive having so much in common with the Nazi party. You are the ones siding with the Palestinians(Jew haters,Bath party), abortion, isn't that the killing of the inferior before they are born. You libs own the death culture. If I am a Conservative because I am for life then so be it. Didn't Hitler also take away personal gun ownership. Dem's again own the gun lobby. Dem's are trying to make Conservatism illegal (fair speech/political correctness). Why don't libs order the brown shirts now and start goose stepping around Washington.

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent," Thomas Jefferson.

Liberals are demonized with gross generalizations like "baby killers" and "communists" and other malarkey, because those doing the accusing are counting on people who don't have a conscience to say anything or counting on those who don't pay attention. Hence the popularity with "Reality TV" which allows people to ignore the reality of the world and has them focusing on asinine stunts or quizzes or whatever they are pimping on a particular show.

First you have to accept you premise that Hitler killed "intellectuals" and "liberals" first. Seems like he kept a large number of brilliant scientists on the roster to engineer weapons and such. They did invent jet engines, assault rifles, and ballistic missiles....for better or worse.

I'm not going to answer this question. I only want to clarify something for the idiots who are inevitably going to respond to this question.

In Europe, "liberal" parties tend to be free market and pro-democracy. Only in the United States has the word "liberal" taken on a different connotation. So, please, do not argue that fascism is directly opposed to liberalism (in the American sense of the word). On the contrary, fascism is opposed to that which is free, including capitalism. American definitions of "liberal" and "conservative" are NOT applicable to European politics, especially in the WWII era. Do not attempt to claim any moral victory because "liberals" didn't support Hitler. If you knew your history or current events at all, you'd find that you don't have much in common with liberal parties around the world or in history.

*****EDIT: As predicted, many idiots have come forward to conflate the American definition of "liberal" and the real meaning of liberalism, the liberalism that Hitler opposed - a free market, pro-democracy, pro-business, and pro-progress philosophy. Ugh, sickening! Read a freakin' history book, guys!
