There is a distinct difference between staying quiet because you are legitimately concerned for your own safety or that of your family and trying to act streetwise because it's glorified in pop culture.
What's really pathetic is when you have rich white kids in upper-class suburbia telling each other to "stop snitching or ****'s gonna go down." That's really sad. What kind of ****, hmmm? Daddy's going to hear about this and ground you? Can't play the XBox, Playstation, OR use your iPod for a whole week???
This "Stop Snitching" marketing campaign needs to stop. The ridiculous t-shirts, those certain rappers who still insist on destroying their own hometowns instead of giving just a decimal point of their multi-millions back to the people and places that could do the most with it, the web designs for middle school kids' Myspace pages - all that needs to stop. And anyone who is over the age of 21 and who buys into this stupid crap needs to go back to grade school, cause that's where most intelligent, educated people start to grow out of this whole thing.
I say you can keep your mouth shut to protect the ones you love, if you absolutely must.
Otherwise, you're a cowardly punk if you stay quiet and let someone else suffer because you're too much of a p**** to stand up for what's right. And you will know that behind that tough-guy mask you wear, preaching about the "code of the streets," deep down you're still just a p****. Cam'ron fits into this category.

I believe that this is hollow statement. He merely echoing a belief that already exists in the poorer communities of this nation. I give it no more credence than when a politician running for office tells me how much they care about my personal concerns also. As to the statement it would harm record sales I believe he is correct. There is a popular myth that all police can not be trusted and no one is the Hip Hop community is challenging this illusion. Especially when the reasons for some terrible police tragedies are ignored and only the race of the partied involved are addressed.

Yes I saw this and then heard it again on the radio. It is terrible that young kids are being told not to be snitches and in particular not to tell law enforcement. Personally I think he sounded like a fool. But at the same time that is the environment that he grew up in and one of the things he was taught. I thought it was so sad that the teenagers that appeared on the show said they wouldn't tell if they saw someone being murdered even if they weren't threatened. What a terrible world we live in. :(

What stupidity. What's even more amazing is the people that follow a credo that rap musicians and rap music set up, as if it is a law. It's a sad statement on today's culture and morays. It's purely a lack of education and upbringing.

I think it's totally ridiculous, but he's right when he says that the record companies are NOT going to ask them to stop saying those things. After all...money talks. This is a sad, but true epidemic in our country.

I see Cam Ron getting shot and killed in the next 5 years and his family wanting to know who shot him. I believe in ghost and believe when people do not have closure they come back as ghost. I think he will be doomed to walk the Earth as a ghost because he will not know who killed his DUMBA**. May his code of ethics bite him in the ***!!!

It is truly sad and alarming. What kind of person wouldn't help solve a murder if he could?
