Regular electronic stovetop, i have foil underneath to catch any food to make it easy to clean up, but I don't know if the foil has anything to do with it. I thought it was the foil at first, and now, im scared to put the burner back in the stove. and yes I was dumb enough to go and take it out with my bare hands, but only because i thought i was going to take out the odd crackling foil and when I noticed the burner was cracklin in my hand i wigged out, set it down and left the kitchen... any idea what it is? Oh and this is after I cooked something for about 30 minutes on the burner.

If your are hearing crackeling from your burner DEFINITELY replace it.It is not just getting ready to burn out,it is getting ready to EXPLODE.YES,burners will explode,in a way.kinda like a big sparkler but the fragments that fly away can hit and burn you or anything it hits.btw,i am a commercial/residential appliance tech,so i know this to be true. The foil is not a good idea.It reflects alot of heat back at the burner and will cause it to wear faster.

There could be a bunch ot things causing this. One thing to check is, are you making good contact on the plugs when you plug the burner in? There could be some arcing going on, and this will present a problem. There may be some liquid that has seeped in and is making noise.

As for the foil, get rid of it. I don't think it is UL approved anyway. If you can't figure it out, then call a repairman and be safe.

It might be getting ready to burn out. You might just want to replace it. Also using aluminum foil on your pans is a fire hazard. When It gets grease on it, it can catch on fire, if you insist on using it replace it often.
