Year round school has been a concept that has been tossed around since I was in high school - more than 41 years ago. I believe that summer vacation is great for the kids. Mothers that work have a harder time planning for child care when the kids are at home. I don't think kids learn any more if they are in school all year long. If one wants to be completely honest, school is a free babysitter for the working mother.

Absolutely not. More and more kids will be quitting school. Taxes will go up. More student burn out. If they cannot teach children now, I really do not think that longer hours and all year school will help. Better teachers may help. Teachers need to be required to get at least a B average in college. Not a D or C average like some of the future teachers I went to college with. Yes I said D or C they were just barely scraping by.

Do you live in America? A lot of the schools are already year round and have been for at least 15 years. They do it here where I live and the kids have to go to school in 115+ weather. I don't think that's such a good idea, we live in the desert and those kids should be at home and cool. They have to go outside and play in that! Sometimes it gets up to 126. My son's school isn't year round but a lot are. Even in June before he gets out and in August when he starts back up and through early Novemember it's well over 100. It is too hot to be in school here in the summer.

It has actually been proved that kids who go to school 'year round', with shorter vacation times (but more of them), retain what they learn a lot better than those who have almost 3 months in the summer to forget. Teachers also spend a lot less time "reteaching" things the kids forgot from the year before. I think it should be mandatory.

haha thats a ridiculous question. in the summer people are able to do things they are never able to do during the school year. for example, some kids go to camp and learn to be more independent and well-rounded. I, on the other hand, am spending the summer in UCLA.

Yes, we are so far behind other countries. We now have a deficit of people that are entering into the science and math fields of study, and we have other countries that are now surpassing us in science technology. We are closing two linear accelerators since they are now defunct. We should put other science exploration study in their place, but the universities are not justifying the need without students. Our schools are so remiss in teaching science and math well, but then the teachers that are teaching these fields could not pass the tests that would qualify them to teach, so what could one expect? We need to improve our schools, and the curriculum. It needs a total revamping. For years, universities have been importing students to the United States to fill their science and math vacancies. We can't produce the children here in the U.S.

Many countries in europe do this as well, but if we do this in the United states, you do realize what the public will do? that will change everything drastically, many lifestyles will change as well, so leave it as it is.
