An acute triangle has all interior angles less than 90 degrees. An obtuse triangle has one interior angle greater than 90 degrees. A right triangle has one 90 degree angle.

You are given a straight line and a point on it. A ray begins with this point and extends toward infinity. When this ray is exactly perpendicular to the straight line, it makes angle of 90 on both of its sides.
When it does not, its inclined to either of its sides. When its inclined to one side, the side where an angle seems to USE OPTIMUM space is OBT-USE and an angle which uses minimum space hence giving it a A-CUT shape is A-CUT-E.
In above case when one angle is obtuse the other has to be acute and vice-versa.
But above information is not sufficient to determine if an angle is acute or obtuse as this couldn't be applied to all angles in general.
Here's what you could do. Take a protractor. Locate the 'origin' of all angles shown on protractor. Place protractor in such a way that this 'point of origin' coincides exactly with the 'vertex' on the straight line(which is 'fixed arm' of the angle to be measured) and line of 'point of origin' coincides with 'fixed arm' where angle is formed. Now determine which scale's '0 deg' that lies on the 'zero arm' of the protractor which in turn coincides with the 'fixed arm' of the angle to be measured. This scale will measure the expanse(or degree measure) of your angle.
If this degree measure is below 90, its ACUTE(in most of the cases acute angle looks like alphabet 'A' but not always. For eg angles with measure greater than 75/80 dont look "exactly' like A)
If measure is exact 90, its a RIGHT angle.
If measure is greater than 90, its an OBTUSE angle.

You mean a mnemonic or something? Things that are small tend to be "cute". So that's one of remembering that an angle less than 90 degrees is acute.
