I am a NON-SMOKER!!!
What happened to our freedoms in this country? Smoking bans are stupid! If a bar/restaurant owner wants to let people smoke in the establishment that they own, why should the government have the power to tell them no? If that same owner wants to ban smoking in their place of business, good for them they can ban it because after all, it is their business. My point is simple, if I owned something (anything- car, house, bar, restaurant) and I allowed people to smoke their, that is on me. It should be up to the owners not the government!
That is just one of my many points on why the ban is stupid. I could go on, but I won't because I already went off on a rant above!

I'm a smoker who lives in Scotland so have had the smoking ban for over a year now. Wasn't so keen on it to begin with but am getting used to it now. Only real complaint is when a pub has no smoking shelter or something and everyone just hangs around the door smoking, it doesn't look very nice

Smoking is not banned totally it is only in public places and places where people work. This is the right thing to do as you now know the smoke from the end of a cigarette. because it has not been filtered, is more dangerous that the smoke taken in by the smoker so while smokers should be allowed to smoke they should not be allowed to poison people stand near them

Smoking ban where? In Canada we've had it for years, my city had it for years prior.
I can finally go into a restaurant or bar without raising my cancer risk. It's set me free.
You wanna smoke fine, just not where I'm gonna be. That's like running your car indoors, makes no sense.
So the whole thing just made sense to me, I was surprised that it didn't happen sooner.
Oh and here we had a spokesperson for the campaign, an elderly woman dying of lung cancer. But she'd never smoked a day in her life, she got it from being a waitress. The air was blue where she worked. She's died now, it was so terribly sad, she was just trying to make a living.

no i don't agree. I choose to smoke. I pay my tax on it. they should open pubs that are none smoking and some that are then people can make a choice. I'm a veggie and i hate the smell of meat it turns my stomach "i think they should ban that next" (you choose to eat meat, you pay your taxes on it) i know what happens to smokers, i still choose to. the only thing i don't agree with is the treatment. smokers should NOT go first for ops and things, now that's wrong. we all make our choices (good or bad)

I agree it should be banned in restaurants and other places where the public interacts, but not in bars. BEFORE they banned it in establishments that are set up for people to drink and SMOKE...they should have banned it in cars that are carrying children. A bar owner should have the choice. They can have a smoking or a non-smoking bar. A child has no choice if their parents choose to smoke, so now...it's criminal to smoke in all bars because...why? Because adults can't be trusted to make their own choice to patronize a smoking or non-smoking ADULT business? But a child still has to sit in an enclosed car, breathing that concentrated smoke and that's okay?
And dude...there's NO way you will ever convince me that smoking causes global warming. I don't smoke, but if people want smoking to stop...the complete bull that's being passed around also needs to stop.

I agree with it. Not because I want the government adding another regulation, but because too many smokers don't have the courteousness to not smoke when they know it is bothering those around them. It's really sad that this needs to be done. People should know to refrain from smoking without being forced not to. Because they don't, all smokers will lose out.

disagree, in Switzerland when the ban does come, places will have a choice of smoking or non smoking. the smoking places will have proper A/C. Why couldn't UK do the same

I agree with it as I have had enough of inhaling other people's cigarette smoke. They can choose to shorten their lives but I don't think it's right that it impacts on others who have chosen not to smoke.

My View
Smoking is a killer, it robs people of their lives. People don't need to be reminded of that, we know it.
I'll happily give someone a reminder though but then its their choice if they listen to that or not. If they do then great, good on them.
HOWEVER
If your going to smoke then have the respect of smoking INSIDE your house. Once your outside your not only smoking for yourself but all the people around you. There are people that suffer from athsma and things like that, they don't need you blowing smoke up their nostrils, and either do I for that matter!
MY CONLCUSION
If your going to smoke - INSIDE THE HOUSE
