I've really been focusing on getting best answers lately and I've noticed I haven't been much more successful than perviously. I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions as to how to improve your best answer percentage.

How about giving a best answer?

Give the most detailed answer with good explanation. Also you can use personal experiences to give the best advice. Don't say what everyone else is saying or thinks. But, only the person will choose what he or she thinks is the best :)

Start up a second account and answer your own questions. Best answer every time. I bet there are many who do this.

Incase anyone gets all accusation-happy, no I don't do this. Way too much effort for something so superficial.

No. I wish I knew what I'm missing but not for myself, for others. My answers just don't seem to hit the target and I refuse to tell them what they want to hear. Go back the way you were and forget points. Those points don't mean a damned thing if you want them.
