You can turn the "Check Engine" light off on a Ford by disconnecting the battery for > 5 minutes.
But the question is why are you turning it off?
Have you repaired the cause of the light to be on?
Or are you doe for a smog inspection, and the light will cause a failure?
Keep in mind if this is the motivation, even with the light out, it may still fail if the monitors haven't been run to "ready" status.

By finding out why it's on and fixing it. Spend $70 for an OBDII scanner and you'll be able to read and reset codes on any car in the last 11 years. Your friends will all think you're a genius.

take the car to autozone they will do it for free.
it may be the gas cap wasn't on tightly and disconnecting the battery may reset it.
