Generally you just stick them together in the tank. Keep in mind the female can store up sperm for several births. So you may need to wait a month or 4. Also keep in mind cross breeding 2 different strains of swordtails, or platy can have very odd results. Of course as many platy, and swordtail strains are hybrids to some degree things get even more interesting.

First of all why would you want too? yes they can but The best answer is please don't even try. You will produce mostly deformed, sterile fish. These fish are called feeder fish. They are raised for the color so it will attract the big fish to feed on them. You will spend time for nothing.
Instead why dont your raise guppies.

This keeps coming up, but no one seems to know where I can buy swordtailed platies. If it can be done, why can't I buy some swordtailed platies.
I'll tell you why, they are two different species and cannot interbreed....
