succeed 100% of the time.
I know many will say "well we should not be there to begin with", "Bush is a criminal", "bla, bla, bla"
I am a combat vet. I have been there. I swear to God almighty, If 100% of the country would support the war, I swear to God we would not have had half the amout of deaths in Iraq.
I do not like BUSH. I am not a conservative. I am not 100% liberal either. I know it is hard for a lot of people to believe... ALL OF THE PROTESTING AND DIVISIVENESS ABOUT THE WAR IS CAUSING MORE DEATHS OF OUR SOLDIERS IN IRAQ... Again, please dont reply by saying " we should not be there", well we are now deal with it. If Bush went into this war "illegaly" send him to prison "AFTER THE CONFLICT"...
I know in the answers I will be insulted somehow. I am still astounded of the disrespect shown to vets. I am also astounded that I am not believed. I HAVE BEEN THERE, MY IRAQI COUNTERPARTS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE TERRORISTS KNOW THE US IS DEVIDED AND THAT MAKES THE TERRORISTS

I AM NOT AT ALL WANTING TO HALD PROTEST. PROTEST IF YOU WISH. MY INTENT HERE WAS TO SIMPLY LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT THE LEGAL PROTESTING YOU ARE DOING IS CAUSING MORE HARM TO THE SOLDIERS.

This is an interesting question, and let me first start by saying thank you to you for your service. it's not an easy job, especially if you are shipped to Iraq.
Now, i believe that no amount of public support for the war would change its outcome. Since you have been there, you must have obviously seen that the two predominant religious there are in a heated battle. It is as it has been for many hundreds of years. Opposing sides who want power of the country. I cannot imagine what it must have been like for you over there, so I will not speculate. However the question of succeeding in Iraq must include at a fundamental level the aspect of the human condition. War is all some of these people have known. Poverty, death, disease. They do enjoy at least some comforts there from what I have read, but when you breed children into hate you cannot defeat them as adults. The idea must be destroyed. And as far as human history goes, it is much easier to annihilate a group of people, than it is the ideas that drive their rage, and discontent. God bless you, and again, thanks for your service.

With respect, your logic is flawed. We didn't have 100% support for WW1 or WW2 and we still won those wars.
You talk of the terrorists as if they are rational. A culture which supports suicide bombing isn't a rational culture. The terrorists don't care if America is united or divided, they call us the Great Satan, do you really think they will cease fighting us because we're united? They're only saying that to mess with your heads, and apparently, it's working.
Don't believe the hype, just follow your orders and do the job you have to do. Let us back here worry about the legitimacy, practicality and/or justification of the orders the President gives you.
You are fighting, in theory, for our right to protest, yet complain when we exercise that right? It would be immoral and un-American to privately object to a war and keep silent just because you don't want to "make waves." That's how cult leaders grow their power and that's how fascists keep power, by marginalizing and dismissing any dissent. With respect, if you are going to deny me my CONSTITUTIONAL right to protest the actions of my government, then I would prefer that you didn't wear the uniform which represents my country and those, like myself, who've served it.
Be safe and be well.

So by that logic if 100% gave rousing cheers everyday no troops would be killed.. is that your stance? Collateral damage would be minimized? Or we would just not notice it, or not care? It's not about the Vets it about moral and ethical rational for war. My family has fought in every war we've had for 370 years since 1632 when we came here. But your logic is weak, blind patriotism is not what our country was founded on ,accountability and majority will of the people was. The military is made up of citizens who swear their oath to the constitution not the policy.

Just so you know, that there are a lot of us who don't support the war, but we do not want to make the mistakes we made in Vietnam regarding the treatment of the soldiers. But if you are expecting me to say, this war is great, sorry, I cannot do that.
I have a problem with why we are there, and I've talked to troops who have returned from the war. They don't see the reason for us being there either.

There is absolutely no basis or logic in your correlation of 50% support to 50% success and 100% support to 100% success.. it is flawed logic. also, being a vet doesn't mean people should automatically assume you are right or wrong.. your job was to obey commands.. not to devise a strategy for success... in the end.. while I appreciate what you are trying to do with a post like this.. I respectfully disagree.

I know combat vets who disagree with you.
The last time I heard the 100% with us or against us, I was listening to tapes from facist states.
Edit: My brother is on his way and my mother was in Afghanistan. Oh I support the troops and their effort, but I think the war is ridiculous and so do my relatives.

How about if 100% didn't support this idiotic war we could get the hell out of this mess.
If 100% did not support it = no more dead troops for nothing, we need a plan to withdraw.
