I have been on the Depo-provera for 4 months so far and I have been experiencing a lot of side-effects: I have put on around 7lbs, I have been feeling depressed, sex has been really painful (especially the first couple of weeks after having the shot) and my libido has been petering out. I do not want to have another one!
I have tried lots of hormonal contraceptives (various types of pill and mini-pill) and all of them give me nasty side-effects or I am too rubbish at remembering to take them on time, so I am considering asking my doc for an IUD. He has repeatedly told me I am not a good candidate as I haven't had any children but I've done some googling and it appears this shouldn't stop you having an IUD, it just makes it a little more painful.
The problem is, I am going to be away travelling in China when my depo runs out. Can I get an IUD fitted before I go?
Does anyone have any experiences with either the IUD/depo that may help?

I am very relieved you are getting off that shot!

I was on it for four years and I had horrid side affects.

You should talk to another doctor, they would tell you if and how it will affect you.

You can get a non-hormonal IUD put in at any time before you depart on your trip. It shouldn't interfere with the Depo shot, but it may make your periods heavier and more painful. But the side effects from the shot will still be present until the three months run out.

IF you plan on having children in the future I wouldn't recommend it. The reason why they recommend it for women who have had children is that their uterus is slightly larger than a woman who hasn't had children there fore the risk of perforation and expulsion are higher in those women who have not had children and with that being said it can cause infertility. Another problem is that some Dr wont give it to women who are not married bc an increase in sex partners puts any woman at risk of infection. Infection is harder to treat with the IUD in place. and can cause infertility.

So If you plan on having children in the future I wouldn't recommend it the chances are slim BUT its a possibility and you are at a higher risk.

as for getting it while on the Depo yes you can get it within the last few weeks

Normally the effect of Depo lasts for three to four months, yes you can have IUD fitted , but as you say you have had many problems with other drugs, you just have to have a month after IUD to see you don't run into other problems. May be when you are in China, in Case of problems, they can just remove it. I do hope you are not planning to have sex while in china.

Have your self examined for Von Williabrands ailment, a genetic unfastened bleeding ailment - actual extra of a syndrome - and the main gentle kind of Hemophilia (the only one women individuals get). 5% of the inhabitants has it and that they do no longer understand till oddities like this happen. I even have it, and have dealt with what I call "hell days" for my finished existence. "Hell days" are the era days with clots such as you describe, and no tampon nor pad can comprise them. It worsened throughout menopause (sure, worsened) - and that i placed on black pants each and every of the time, merely in case. LOL, there are worse issues, even with the undeniable fact that it incredibly is an elementary attempt, and that i heartily propose it.
