Ask the Liberals why. As a Republican, I wouldn't know. Libs are the ones who first allowed foreign language speaking peoples into this country, made taxpayer's pay for pamphlets in schools, welfare, and government documents, to be printed in languages, other than English, created special education for illegal aliens, and those who refuse to learn English, the language of USA.
I dislike pressing 1, too. I would rather press 0. For no foreigners allowed in USA, who won't learn English. Americans need to make legislature, claiming English as our National Language. They haven't yet. We don't owe foreigners anything. They owe us, for giving them the opportunity for a better life, and their children.

We have to press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish because you can't expect the people in the call center in New Delhi to be able to speak both.

Because America is about one thing: Money. Corporations have figured out that they can get more money by being less American.

BUT you should be more angry about the fact that the corporations (with the help of the government) have moved all the jobs to China in exchange for money.

NOTHING has a shorter outlook than an American corporation.

They are even willing to give up their own citizenship to save on taxes.

Any exec who votes for his company to move overseas to save tax money should be stripped of his own U.S. citizenship and should be exiled for life and declared and enemy of the people and be forbidden to make calls or send communications into the United States.

WHY in CANADA, you must press 1 to continue in English and 2 for French?

FIRST OF ALL.....

i like to remind people that america is the continent and not just the usa and i also like to remind people that the only true AMERICANS are the natives so i invite people to do some research on history about where they descend from and quit all this bull c about inmigrants.
All americans from canada to brasil are... mm.. AMERICANS.. not USA only......

so.. your question is already wrong.

If you did not know, "America" took over some spanish speaking territory, well... a lot. So there is a lot of hispanic tradition as well as speaking in California, Arizona, Texas, ETC.

Back to your "question".... Because there is so many people who come here from other countries and do not know the language, it is helpful to have that language option. They work for foreign companies and english might not be require. Example.. Pedevesa in Houston.

I picture you going to Russia, wouldn't you like an "English" option. Or I might say... "American" Option?
Where are you from? i hope guess a really small town, because you really do not have any idea what are you talking about.

Go to Galleria Mall in Houston, TX. One of the most luxurious mall in "AMERICA." Who brings the money to that mall, literally.... the Mexicans (i am not one) who travels to Houston and to shop for 3 days. They are the one who spend over 2000 dollars in every store, and those are the one who are most likely to spend more than any other "american." SO we must, if we are smart, give them as much comodity as possible.
country boy

PS. AN... EXCUSE ME FOR MY ENGLISH... it happens that I only speak 4 languages.

No matter how much we want to pretend otherwise, English is not the only language spoken in America. There are large numbers of immigrants (legal ones, yes) who speak other languages. We need to learn not to ignore the cultures of other people, but to embrace them.

If you don't speak english and live here...get out. At least have the common courtesy to learn the language. If i moved to Mexico, I'd learn the language.

Well America is compromised of North and South America wherein the three most dominant languages are Spanish, English, and French. There are also a large number of ingenous languages spoken throughout America as well.

As for the USA? If you don't like it, go teach ESL, be part of the solution instead of just ranting about the cause.

So that when someone from another country comes to visit or live here, my company can provide a good service to them too and make a profit while letting the other guests feel welcome.

Some people: "If all those Mexicans are gonna come up here and live, they need to learn our language!"

Entrepreneurs: "If all those Mexicans are gonna come up here and live, I need to learn THEIR language!"
