With a VCR or a DVR (like TiVo)

Put the VCR in series with your cable box, your satellite box, or the antenna for reception over the air. Then let the signal run to your TV. Then record the show on the VCR.

Connect the cable or satellite box to the VCR. You will need a set of RCA jacks, which you can find at most electronic stores (Best Buy, Radio Shack, Fry’s etc.). You will need three wires with jacks bound together or one separate wire with jacks and a pair of wires with jacks on the each end. Connect the OUT to the VCR's IN for the right and left sound track and the video signal. Then connect the OUT jacks from the VCR to the IN jacks on the TV. If you don't have RCA connectors on the TV then you can use the cable wire that comes with the VCR (most new VCRs come with a set of RCA jacks). The cable wire has an out ring of broken into 3-4 segments with a thin wire in the middle. A RCA jack has a ring with a central prong that is larger than the cable wire's thin wire.

If you receive your TV signal through the are then you need to use a cable wire like connection or connect the antenna via screws. Once you do then you can use either RCA jacks or a cable line to connect the VCR to the TV.

Set the TV to either channel 2 or 4 (that channel that is not used in your area) or set it to receive video then you can record the show and watch it at the same time (so you can edit out commercials) or you can set the timer on the VCR to record the show when you are gone.

A DVR (Digital Video Recorder) lets you put the show on the machine's hard drive, but you can't carry the DVD around and plug it in to someone else's TV. A VCR cassette can be easily carried to another machine. There is also a DVD recorder, but the record process is similar to the process for a VCR and the set up is the same.

Read the manual. I'm assuming it's a VCR?
Set the clock
set the time Y & R starts
set the time Y & R ends
set the correct channel #
Hit OK
If you find the Menu on your TV, it'll walk you right thru it.
