People lie because they are afriad of SOMETHING. It may be a childish fear like "am I going to be punished" or it may be a real, serious fear, but either way, people lie when they are afraid and stressed.

Yes definitely. Particularly people who lie all the time, they are doing it because they feel their life is not exciting enough so they have to make up lies to get people interested. This is obvious insecurity.

For the less regular liars, I would say it is probably more to do with an insecurity about that that particular subject. For example, a normally confident person might lie and say they cannot meet their friends because they are ill. The truth is actually that they are very upset about something - maybe their relationship has just ended. They just want some quiet time and don't want their friends to know the truth as they are not happy to talk about it just yet.

The main reason for lying is usually to cover up a wrong doing in the hope that you will not be found out.

Some people are habitual liars and lie about everything. It is a sign of immaturity because most intelligent people find out that if they tell a lie eventually they will need to tell another lie to cover up the first one.

It can get very complicated for them trying to remember what they lied about in the first place.

I do not think that they will feel more secure by lying, in fact they are likely to feel more insecure because of the fear that the lie will be discovered.

People lie all the time. I have no idea who tells the truth these days. I try to tell the truth, but it seems like in today's society you are better off lying. In fact, sometimes it seems like people want you to lie to them so they feel more secure. Wearing it on your sleeve and being honest is seen as insecurity. I wish America could sit back and take a good long look at itself.
Just lie. It's all you have.

People can lie for all sorts of reasons. They lie to seem more interesting, lie to cover something up, lie because they are afraid of getting in trouble, lie because they want to keep something secret, lie because they are afraid of hurting another person. The list goes on!

No not because of insecurity. Rather it's easy to tell lies than tell the truth. I remember doing that wen I was younger. Cause my grandmother always catched on when I told a fip. Nevertheless, one day she said:"Lies have short legs." Since than I tried not to do it every again. But once in a while a fip comes out. It's a normal thing . I think.

most people lie because they feel that it is the easy way out...there are different kinds lies though:
the life saving lie, the cute lie, the funny lie, the bad lie and the ugly lie!!!

most of those are triggered by a will to avoid an uncomfortable situation fast!

No I don't think itis insecurity that causes a lie. I know someone who is a compulsive liar and doesit to present to the worldas soen thing but in reality is quite another altogehter. The self image thing has become blurred and they really want to impress and be a good person when in effect they are totally self obsessed..........

yes they do. i know a person who ive known about 15 years and most of the time when its just us or others who have known her forever shes pretty normal, but you let someone else who doesnt know her history come into the picture and she becomes a totally different person~ flat out lying knowing there are people here who KNOW its a lie, and she will never aknowlegde it later. Ive had many discussions about this behavior w/ her and it boils down to her need to be liked, she doesnt see her self as exciting enough with out all the embellishment...but unfortunately all this does is push people further away.
