I've read that its around 40 left.
in any case, though, they should be severely punished. these are extremely delicate, sensitive animals.

Endangered animals should be protected no matter how many there are left.

Where is this 7 number coming from?

"There are only 25 to 34 of the graceful animals still living in the wild, WWF said at a news briefing in Moscow to report on the results of a census of leopard numbers in Russia's Far East. At least 100 would be needed to guarantee the species' survival."

Not that this makes it any less of a crime -- just curious where the number is being gotten from.

Furthermore let me ask you this were you even aware of the fact they were close to extinction prior to that news article? Odds are no you were not. Secondly if you were chances are great that if you saw one in the wild you wouldnt hesitate for a second to shoot at it if you feared for your life.
