Just because some little fattie wants to live off big macs, Doesn't mean I should have to spend an hour of my school day feeling like a complete loser because i get picked last every time.

No.
People say fat kids need gym class?
There are plenty of kids at my school who are fat and in gym class.
It doesn't make them healthier, it doesn't make them lose weight.
Kids just half *** their way through that class, fat or skinny. Teacher tells us to run, we jog and walk. He says to do 20 sit-ups, we just sit there as his back is turned. The only fun things are sports, and my teacher gets mad at us when we don't play by the rules. As if any of us are training to be athletes. Am I saying gym is bad? Heck no. It's fun, and I love the games. But should it be a requirement for education? No.
I think that we should have health and gym, like I did this year. But throughout gym class, teachers should teach kids the importance of a healthy lifestyle. My old gym teacher would sit down and talk about our heart, how much we should exercise, and would have us stretch and warm-up each day. My new teacher just hands us a hockey stick and tells us to play. He tells us rules, gives us a racket, and sits in his office as we play badminton. Now, I love those sports, and I love playing them, but he could as least teach us how to live a healthy lifestyle.
Maybe I got a little sidetracked here, but that's my view on it.

No! Really intense kids that want to get into a top college would rather spend that period learning calculus, not dodge ball. Gym is a waste of time. Fatties will still be fat and atheletic kids will still jog everyday. Since when does an hour a week of gym change anything???
By the way, I share your agony. Playing sports sucks.

No, some people have a disorder or something genetic in their family where it is hard to loose weight. Some people have problems loosing weight because they is a number of problems that can be stopping them. Just becuase some skinny people want it , then dang go run your little butt off but it should not be a requirement. Some people are trying to loose the weight, and skinny people come up and make fun of others. Don't force others to take a class you want to take.

Yes it should be a requirement. It is just as important as math. It prepairs your body to handle the challenges that it my face, weather you need speed, strenght or team work. Just because you are picked last does not mean that you dont get valuable experience and an hour of relaxation in school

NO NO NO!! I've always thought why in the world is this a graduation requirement? It should be an elective. Foreign language, something you need for college, is an elective and you don't need gym and it's a requirement? I think it's really messed up. If people get to big, exericing isn't going to help just for 45 minutes, you need diet too. Schools are just retarded.

I hear you there. Gym is the worst class I've ever had. I always got picked last too and all the games we played I sucked at. It got so bad one year that I just skipped that period haha. In my opinion school should be about more academics rather then physical fitness.

no way. i wouldn't mind gym so much if it weren't for the fact that we have to dress out. I could perform just as well (actually better because i wouldn't be self conscious) in jeans. The uniforms are ugly. the only reason they make us dress out in uniforms for gym is to make money!!! So i get to suffer through wearing ugly clothes. The coaches are mean. When am I ever gonna need to know how to walk laps around a track? That's what i do pretty much every day. we don't learn anything. wow. walking in circles. gym sucks. teach me something that i could actually use if i have to go to school. I hate school (and i make strait A's)!!!! School SUCKS!!! and to the people that say that we need gym for obesity, I'M NOT OBESE!!!!! like the questioner said, why should i have to be in gym 'cause the kid next to me in Reading feels like being fat? how STUPID!!!! I HATE GYM!!!

Yes because this is the only exercise kids will get during their teenage years if not involved in sport outside school. They should also teach teenagers about eating healthily as many teenagers survive on junk food when they move out of home.

i thought it was kind of ridiculous for it to a requirement while i was in high school. but for some of these people, that will be the last time they ever excercise. at my high school we had to have 3 semesters of gym, athletics, dance, etc. i don't think it's a bad thing. i have seen people not graduate over this though.

No its a waste of time. I had to take 2 gym classes and it sucked i could have done other things and graduated faster. but then with all these weight issues people are having they should have optional gym and encourage overweight people to attend.
