I have had a look at all the answers, and I think you still might not be sure, they dont make it very clear. 500ml is half a litre, 1000ml is a full litre. There was only 24 different people saying that EXACT thing, so I thought I would reitterate it.

No, the root word for milliliter is milli=1000 therefore 1000 ml=1 liter 500 ml= 1/2 liter

No. The word milli-litre mean one thousandth of a litre. So 500ml means 500 thousandths of a litre = half a litre.

Metric measurements are based on 10 not 5. All metric conversions bewteen units are based on 10, 100 or 1000
